Default Best time to book a cruise?

Is it best to book a cruise a year in advance
or is it better to wait for price drops closer
to departure?
We want to take a 7 day departing Miami
on March 27, 2005. Carnival ship, anywhere
warm.
Thanks,
RSP

We booked our first cruise a year and a half in advance and as you can see we did the same with this one. As the price drops so does our final pament. But oh the wait inbetween is soooooo long!!!

wait as long as you book it 4 to 6 months in advance you should still get the good price if you book very far in advance the wait seems to kill ya.

I usually book 6-8 months in advance. This year the price has gone up. We paid $499 and the same cabin is now $659.

I would think booking far in advance would have advantages.
1- the price may go down but it can't go up. If it goes down, it will either be cheaper for you or you will get upgraded.
2- Early booking for a guaranteed cabin would increase your chances of upgrades.

Last minute bookings may bring in a great deal, if you can afford the flexibility. You may find that your desired sailing is not available or strong demand may keep the ships full and the prices high.

Either book right when the prices come out (more then a year in advance?) ; 6-8 months before the cruise (sales!) ; or last minute if you live right by a port and dont have to worry about airfare!
