Default Wonderful information

This is my first time on this board and the information here is great........ I am a first time cruiser and looking forward to going on the Destiny on June 6, 2004. I have read several cruise reviews and some are great and others are horrible. I trust my experience will be a great one, but if not I will be sure to post my opinion to this board. I am actually staying in San Juan two nights before the cruise and one night post cruise. So I'm having two vacations in one..... I can barely control my excitement just thinking about visiting Puerto Rico for the first time and cruising for the first time.... Everyone keep all of the good information coming I LOVE IT

You will have a wondersul cruise. My first cruise was last year 4-6-03 on the Destiny. We flew in on the day of the cruise and left immediately following. Now I like to go a day before the cruise to enjoy the port city. I am packing for my 5th cruise since last April. We really got hooked. Some people you can't please no matter what you try.

My philosohy is you make your cruise what you want it to be. Nothing will be perfect, so overlook the little things. You will only be on the ship for 1 short week, and it will fly by, so enjoy evey single minute and savor it to the fullest. You will learn little things on your own which works best for you.

This board has such a wealth of information. Everyone is so nice! To bad it's only the cruise-aholics with this attitude!

Happy Cruising to All!

I concur, try everything even if you think you won't like it..especially the food, try things you would not eat at home and one of the best things about cruising is meeting people from all walks of life and experiences..a hint, check your cabin charges every night before you go to bed to reconcile them with your receipts (you'll be surprise how quickly they add up)..have a great time

We spent our Destiny cruise pre-night in San Juan and it was a great decision. The line outside (yes, outside) waiting to board in the hot sun made me very glad we just didn't get off a flight. I thought the Destiny was ok. We had a baclony cabin and I must say, they were my least favorite balconies of any ship I've been on. We also had a bird on our balcony the whole trip who wouldn't leave. They even had someone from security try and rid us of this stowaway to no avail!!

Here is another great site for Destiny

http://cruiseclues.com/shipstips/carnivaldestiny.htm

You will find lots of pics, review and additional website.

I will be sailing Destiny in Oct 3...Staying 2 days before and after the cruise. Where are you staying? I wanted to get a good feel of Puerto Rico, so friday Im staying at the Raddison Ambassador renting a car saturday morning and driving 40 mins to the Hyatt Dorado.
Then after the cruise Im staying 2 nights at the Wyndham Old San Juan. I got them all at great prices via Priceline.

I see you are in Detroit. I live in Dayton Ohio, but the airfare thru Spirit Air was so cheap I decided to just take the drive up to Detroit.

Have a great cruise!!

Jeff

I actually got a great deal on NorthWest Airlines for $335.00 so that's great and I can use my world perks mileage. We are staying at the Comfort Inn the two nights before and the one night post cruise. I went to tripadvisor.com to check the reviews and everyone seemed to say the same thing. Its not the Hilton or the Marriott but it was very clean, very nice staff and a good price. I actually got the room for $80.00 per night and that has the two queen beds in the rooms.

If you travel before June 30, Northwest has a coupon for $198 airfare. These coupons can be had on eBay. Just search on "Northwest coupon". They are mass mailed in markets NWA is trying to be competitive. We used them for Easter weekend to fly from Newark to Shreveport. If you travel on tuesday or wednesday, the fare is $178!

Now that is a good price.... I'm okay with the $335 I paid, but I would have been happier with $198.00 (*smile*)

Other than this website, I found out that tripadvisor.com usually has great reviews on just about ALL hotels world wide. So I went there to check the reviews on some of the hotels in San Juan. Since I treated myself to a balcony room for my birthday, I just wanted clean and comfortable accomodations in San Juan.

Have you used Priceline before? There is no way to be sure which hotel you will get. If you are looking for a weekend night Im sure it would be more expensive. Sundays and Mondays are always slow days for hotels.

As was already mentioned check out Biddingfortravel.com to get some priceline bidding strategies.

Good Luck

hi nisha:
first, welcome to the board. We too are going on the destiny, Sept 5th. This will be our 5th cruise & just love it.
We too are flying out of Detroit to San Juan on Spiritair. We live in cleveland & the airfare was just to high, so we decided we would drive to detroit. We paid 736.00 for the 3 of us, it is now over 1200.00 for the same flights. We are doing 1 night post cruise and plan on staying at the inter-continental casino. on their website the price is 128.00 a night, i dont know if i can do better than that on priceline. all the travel sites, this hotel is at least 145.00 a night. never tried priceline before. again, welcome aboard & enjoy your cruise. Cant wait for ours in September. I met someone on this board that is on the same cruise & the same air flights as as.
