So I've heard of four options for the Stingray City/snorkeling tours at Grand Cayman:
Native Way Watersports
What are your experiences with these companies? The prices all appear to be about the same (Soto's may be a little cheaper; I'm not sure what Carnival charges), and they all offer transportation, tour, refreshments.
Also, does anyone have any experience booking these for a group? We may have 30 or 40 who want to do the tour.
We used Soto's last week and were very happy with them. Having said that I'm not sure if they can accomodate 30-40 people. You would have to check with them. There were 14 on our boat. The ship's charge was $47/pp and Soto's was $24/pp. Hope this helps.
used soto's way back in the 90's. they are good to work with - we were on our first scuba trip since certification and they were extremely helpful. we had their videographer do a private video and it turned out great.
Just used Native Way on 4/12 Carnival Sensation. They were great - smaller company and boat (only about 20 of us on our trip).
The guys went in the water with us (which many of the others do not). They located specific stingrays who they find each trip. They let each of us touch first, then hold if we would like. Then once your are comfortable, they place them on your back, etc.
Were great to deal with. Were right at the pier wating for us (and we were 2 hours late getting in). Were worried about getting back in time for the tender but was not a problem.
Charged us $30 for adult and $20 for child. Figured we saved about $100 from ship charges.
We used Captain Marvin last September and were very pleased with our tour. Captain Marvins is within sight of the pier. We had only 16 on our tour. We got plenty of individual attention. We each got to hold a stingray, and pose for pictures. We had squid to feed the stingrays, really cool! The 2 guides were awesome. The transportation to and from the dive shop to the boat was comfortable and not crowded. We booked an early morning tour (0830) took an early (not crowded) tender, and it was great! Plenty of stingrays and no big crowd at the sandbar. We spoke to some fellow cruisers that booked with Carnival, which was later in the day, and they got "rained out"didn't get to even see a stingray there . We were back on the ship when the storm came....and oddly enough it did not rain out where the ship was anchored..only onshore.
