How about an adults only non-smoking ship?

They tried the non-smoking one and you see how well that worked out?

I think they are done with the non-smoking ship experiment. The market was just not there.

USFFrank,

How about a compromise...

An adults only ship that has posted "non-smoking" sections where the policy is strictly enforced!

Oh god don't get me started on what went wrong with the nonsmoking thing. The market is there, they just didn't let the market KNOW THEY HAD A SOURCE!

Perhaps there's not a market for a ship dedicated full time to adults only or non-smoking, but I bet occasional cruises in any market where select cruises are non-smoking or adults only, would be a huge hit. They could test the market with say, one sailing per month on the various ships and ports. I bet they'd sail out quickly.

I doubt it kenster, the nonsmoking ship idea is a total nonsmoking ship. there is no smoke smell anywhere, no cigarette burns, etc. Its a different type of passenger even that seems to be on Paradise.

Different than what? I've been on Paradise and don't believe those passengers are any different. Maybe healthier .......

Well, I'd rather sit at a table with a well-behaved child than an obnoxous, rude, drunk or whatever adult, so don't sign me up just yet!!

What if the child is obnoxous or rude? It has also been known to happen ......

I'm with JeanS. Adults Only is no guarantee of anything.

I'm thinking you'll wind up with cruisers that are 18 and over -- or 21 and over, depending on the cruiselines cut-off age -- that have no children yet and are there to party hardy ("Hey, duuuuude, look, its 'adults only'! You know what that means!") and other adults whose children are already grown.

Give me a nice cross-section of people of all ages. I usually manage to find the ones that are friendly and nice and avoid the ones that are rude and obnoxious!

Well, pgmrdev, I never said children are never obnoxious or rude, as a matter of fact, there are NUMEROUS times that I wish they were not in the restaurant I was dining in. I was just making the comment that "adults only" doesn't mean "well behaved". I don't think age means you have manners. My stepsons are more well mannered than some "adults" I've seen...

It was only meant to be as a funny comment (of course with a bit of truth in it!) since such a ship does not exist....

don't be surprise if a "niche" small cruise line finds success in just that endeavor..just think, people love their pets so at some point a cruise line will figure out how to do that!!

I'm a big fan of multi generational,"melting pot" theory of cruising because when people are on vacation on a cruise they have a tendency to have the time and the luxury of enjoying the opportunity to interface (in a relaxed mode) with all types of folks. When I read on this board about people complaining about kids, I often wonder because at some point most people have had small kids so they should have more patience. Cruising is just not for the rich anymore which I think is great

I do not like the idea of a adults only ship. A good resson is what JeanS said "Well, I'd rather sit at a table with a well-behaved child than an obnoxous, rude, drunk or whatever adult, so don't sign me up just yet!! ."

Why is the assumption that the child is always the well behaved one and the adult the rude one? I've never heard adults running up and down the halls screaming. Isn't it possible to have the opposite? Are the odds that much greater that the child will be well behaved and that adult the rude one? Seems to be the assumption. You must have been on some terrible cruises? Why take the chance then and go on another if you are running into such rude adults? I have seen more obnoxious, ignorant children on cruise ships than rude/drunk adults. But since I never travel when school is out, I guess that is when the well behaved children do travel. But, then, I've never met a parent who thought their kids could be anything but fantastic. Truly, the parents are the last to know ........
