Marketing to women?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here on other than the Chit-Chat For Cruisers forum.

I saw an ad on TV yesterday for Carnival Cruise Lines in which Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" was playing.

Is that Carnival's theme song, or does the line (or the industry in general) market mostly to women?

I was with two women--my mom and my travel agent--on the Regent Sun back in 1994.

It's not their theme song, but they have lots of commercials. Its probably just the song that goes with that commercial. They might market to women more in that commercial than another.

While it isn't a theme song for the cruiseline it is an advertising ploy that they hope will attract the fair sex. <G> As men we know that we must do what the ladies want or else so it isn't a bad idea for them to target them in this ad. I have heard many times where the man was dragged kicking and screaming on a cruise but after he has one under his belt it is the man who takes the active lead in booking the second cruise. Maybe the marketing executives read these boards too. <VBG>

I suspect it's just a very smart marketing ploy..not only do husbands/boyfriends do what our wives/girlfriends tell us to do, but also more and more women (married or not) who are in the work force and make their own money are forming social groups (i.e. book clubs, women's night out once a month etc) and a cruising option appeals to them..a week away from husbands/boyfriends and a cruise is a pretty safe enviroment all things considered, so why not "girls just want to have fun". The logical question is how does CCL market to the men ?
