My father smokes a pipe and was ready to cancel his cruise because he thought the entire cruise was non-smoking. We are on the Sensation (not Paradise, which is non smoking). Tell me, where, generally are smoking vs nonsmoking areas on board? I don't smoke, so I've never noticed before.
Yes, you can smoke on any Carnival ships except the " Paradise", and that will change in 10 of 04 when it moves to the west coast.
There are no non smoking rooms, so you can smoke in your cabin, on deck, in the casino, and most of the bars, piano lounge etc. It is also not uncommon to see people walking around the lobby , and atrium, smoking.
Again, no smoking in the dining rooms, but you can eat outside on the lido deck and smoke there.
Carnival used to restrick smoking to one side of the ship, but we could never get the same answer from 3 staff members as to which side. I assume this was an ESL problem. Found no such restrictions on Victory this past March. Only restrictions were eating areas (all) & main show lounge. Pax this trip were polite enough NOT to smoke in elevators (and I am a smoker but that is way too enclosed a place).
There is no smoking on the port (left) of open decks side of the ship. I was on the Triumph in Feb04, and the Capers paper on the first or second day said this. You will also notice small "no smoking" signs posted on the port side of open decks.
