i paid like $50 extra for insurance through carnival when i booked my cruise. do i have to go out and purchase seperate traveler's insurance as well?

Not sure what you mean by seperate Travelers Insurance. That insurance should cover everything you need. Although I never purchase from the cruise line, but rather go to Travel Guard or Access America. Have had good experience with both and you can go right to their website and purchase direct. No need to go through a TA. In theory, you really don't want to buy your insurance from the company you are purchasing your vacation from. Obviously, they are not going out of business, but what if they did? Your insurance would be worthless. It happened a few years back with, I believe, Renassance Cruises. It is just good practice to purchase elsewhere. After all, it is insurance!!
