Default Dress Attire

We are booked on the June 27 sailing of Paradise and were wondering about the "formal nights". How formal are these? I have heard that there are people who wear dress suits (buisness work attire) instead of formals? Any input?

Is there a dress code for the dining room?

Depending on the length of the cruise, either

formal dress or casual resort wear is required in the Dining Room.
The dress requirement for children is the same.

For those not wanting to dress up, the Lido restaurants are open nightly (with the exception of the last evening of the cruise), and have a casual dress code.

Formal Wear: tuxedo (optional); suit and tie; sport coat, tie and slacks; evening gown; cocktail dress; pantsuit

Casual Resort Wear: sport shirts and slacks; dresses; skirts; pantsuit NOTE: Shorts, t-shirts and bathing attire are not permitted in the Dining Room during dinner.

A dark suit, with a dressy shirt and tie is acceptable. My husband wore a black suit, with a french cuff shirt, cuff links, and a nice tie. He wore the same suit on the second formal with another shirt and tie.

I was mainly wondering about what the women wore usually? I really don' t want to have to out and buy a "formal" dress to wear once?

A dressy dress or a pants suit is just fine. No need to buy a long gown. Have a great cruise

On the first formal night we wore long dresses on the second formal a nice coctail dress or dress pants and a nice blouse.

In the dining room on Formal night there will be lots of people in evening wear. The other nights I wear pants suits or dresses. I have even seen people on Formal night wearing tuxedo's. My dh carries a nice suit or two for the entire cruise, then he just wears Dockers and sports shirts for the other nights. Remember your dress shoes.

I do not own a "formal gown", nor does my husband own a tux. We have worn a nice long dress and a good suit/shirt/tie to formal nights, no problem. Despite my vehement protests, my teen son showed up for dinner one night in jeans and nobody stopped him from entereing the dining room (until he got to me!).

On formal nights I wore my prom dresses, and at dinner I either wore a skirt/dress, or slacks and a nice shirt.

I wear a dress that I would wear to an evening wedding on formal nights. My standards are a basic black and a burgungy knee length type dresses.

On the casual nights, I wear capri pants and a nice top. on the semi formal or casual smart nights, I wear a sundress or skirt/top or pantsuit.
