We are leaving out of Galveston sept 11 going to Cozumel and Playa-Del Carmen I would like to know what kind of documents do you have to fill out before you go , and what all do I need to take with me. I would also like to know what kind of security do they make you go through before you get on ship.
You should receive the documents either from your TA, or the cruiseline. Fill everything out ahead of time.
Security is pretty simple. Through a couple of gates and past a drug sniffing dog or two...

You need your birth certificate, and picture ID or A Passport.
You will go through metal detectors, and your bags go through
xray machine just like at airport. You wont have any problems,
its not as bad as airport.
Your birth certificate needs to be a certified copy, with the imprint on it. Also, if you are married, you would need a certified copy of your marriage license. This is to show a paper trail of your name change. If you have a passport, that would be all you would need. Have a great cruise!

We've always used certified birth certificate and picture id (driver's license). We just got back from Bahamas (flew) and were told we would need marriage certificate, but no one ever even asked for it coming or going.
I think you need the marriage certificate only if your name is different on one or more ID's from the name on the docs.
If you mean when your son signed his name where it says signature of bearer, I don't think this is a problem at all! it's just a signature. My mother has a very short signature despite the name being normal length.
