http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org...tml?1081013023

Has it listed as 9/17/2002 N44:53.68 W57:16.66 which would put it off the coast of Canada.

That's great Trevor, considering the Triumph was introduced in 1999
The Sept. 2003 date might be the date it was posted.....

No, the date in one particular post, is shown right on the picture itself. The other picture it says exactly like I've already said. It shows this above the photo...

Carnival Triumph sailing around Hurricane Isabel
Picture taken from U.S. Coast Guard helicopter - 17 Sep 2003

So whoever started this whole thing is trying to say that the picture was taken on September 17, 2003 while at sea. And in Hurricane Isabel. Well, Hurricane Isabel was in fact,, during September of 2003, however, the Triumph was docked in St. Maarten at the supposed date and time of the photo. Which brings to conclusion THE PHOTO IS FAKE! :-)

this is just a thought but wouldnt the triumph had to change its course to miss the hurricane because they wont hit it dead on so maybe they went the long way which they would miss the port of St.Maarten to miss a dead on hit of the hurricane but that was just a guess lol

No, Trevor. I'm not real sure what you're trying to say... don't think that really makes sense but anyway... Have you seen pictures of the hurricane? Have you seen radar images of the Hurricane on September 17th 2003?? Have you seen its location on September 17, 2003??? Obviously not.... or perhaps you don't know where St. Thomas or St. Maarten are?? Hurricane Isabel like I've already said was near the Carolina's and Virgina. Let me show you some facts I read in an article written about September 17th's hurricane isabel's weather:::

Centered about 520 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, the storm was moving north-northwest at about 8 mph, the National Hurricane Center said.

Hurricane-force winds reach outward as far as 145 miles from the eye.
Isabel remains a Category 2 storm with winds of 110 mph

A hurricane warning is in effect from Cape Fear, North Carolina, northward to the North Carolina, Virginia state line including Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds.

A tropical storm warning is in effect from Cape Fear southward to Little River Inlet, South Carolina.

Category 2 hurricanes come with wind speeds of 96 mph to 110 mph and a storm surge of six-eight feet above normal, according to the NHC Web site.

Now tell me,,, do you see it say anything about Florida even?? Anywhere. Nah, and in case you didn't know, St. Maarten is way south of Florida. Hurricane Isabel did not effect the 7-Day Carnival Triumph Cruise, September 13th through September 20th. Therefore, if what I'm understanding from your last post.. The Triumph didn't have to
"take the long way" or whatever you were trying to say :-/ They were simply on time and on their schedule as planned.

Oh, and one more point to prove its a fake picture. On September 17, Hurricane Isabel was a Category 2 hurricane. In 1995 I was in a Category 2 Hurricane myself.. and we were out to sea. I was on the Fantasy (much smaller ship than the Triumph) and waves were barely making it to the bow. And the Triumph's bow is higher then on the Fantasy.

GEEZ!!!guess u didnt read my post because i said just a thought as in i didnt look anything up or as in its just an opinion.......im not any hurricane expert im not lookin up stuff about hurricane isabel plus yes i no where St.maarten is been there 2 times and at the end i said it was just a guess so you dont have to write a freaking paragraph about all of these facts the only thing you had to say is that it happend up near NC when the triumph was in the USVI or something of that sort!

Hello....The date on the picture from the site I listed in my last post was 9/17/2002 not 2003......It did not list the name of the storm....

Man....It's a cool picture even if it is a fake......

Kim, So was Triumph also in St. Martain on 9/17/02?

Check out this review...Seems Triumph was on the Canda route in Sept of 2002. Here is a link to a review from a passenger and it list the storm as Hurricane Gustav.

http://www.cruiseserver.net/travelpa...triumph_14.asp

Maybe this will clear up some of confusion.

Another review from Oct of 03 in which the person says

"The first few days we noticed a urine smell every time we walked down our hallway. We were later told by a staff member that the Triumph had tried to outrun a hurricane sometime last year and had 40 foot swells coming over the ship, the guests had to stay in their rooms and the ship got really beat up due to the hurricane it was outrunning."

Another review from 2002...

Carnival Cruise Vacation 9/7 to 9/14
Cruising East Coast on the Carnival Triumph

We had a wonderful, exciting vacation cruising on the Carnival Triumph. All aspects of the cruise from the entertainment to food, to the cleanliness and beauty of this ship, were excellent. The cruise director, Corey, is multi-talented and lots of fun. Our wait staff was extremely efficient and friendly. Although we ran into Hurricane Gustav, we didn't let it ruin our cruise or the fabulous time we had on this magnificent ship. I look forward to my next cruise with Carnival Cruise Lines. Sylvia C. The picture is real.....The caption on the picture is the incorrect part. Not Trevors fault....It is posted on a number of sites with the incorrect info. Even the Sept 17 2002 date is not right as the Ship was not in a Hurricane then.....In looking at the track of Hurricane Gustav it was at the same Longatutde and Latatutde as that stated on the posted with the 17th date on 9/12/02......Either way it appears the picture is real.

My travel agent just said that this is a hoax. The ship would sink in a wave like that.

I am not sure what the huge debate is all about - the pic does not look that unbelievable to me...
I think some people are saying that its fake b/c they are concerned about being in a similar situation, so they want to convince themselves that the pic is not real to ease their fears. Well, take comfort in the fact that if the pic is real (which I believe that it is) then no one was seriously injured. Bonus!

Carey,

Not only WAS I in a similiar situation. I WAS in practically, the same exact situation as what the picture shows. I was in a hurricane AT SEA in 1995,,, Category 2 hurricane,, same as Isabel and same as Hurricane Gustav. No wait ::::

Hurricane Gustav was a category 2 hurricane of subtropical origin. The cyclone passed near the Outer Banks of North Carolina as a tropical storm, then passed over the eastern end of Nova Scotia and western Newfoundland as a category 1 hurricane.

So if the Triumph was in the area where the supposed coordinates are,, and on that date then, it was probably a category 1. And from my experience of being in a Category 2 hurricane on a much smaller ship. Waves where huge but were surely not as high as they were shown in the picture of the Triumph, they were just barely making it up to the bow,,and that was Category 2! which means higher winds>> perhaps bigger waves. I bet if it would have only been a Category 1 at the time,, the experience I went through probably wouldn't have been as bad as it was.. for our cruise. So there's no "convincing myself" the picture is fake just to ease my fears. I faced a very similiar situation as that fake picture, 9 years ago!! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Triumph wasn't in a hurricane, I don't doubt that it was in a hurricane at all... I know that's very possible... but anyway we all have our opinions and we'll never really know if that picture is real or fake.......

So anyway, yeah.... Have fun on the Victory, Carey, beautiful ship! :-)

The reason I know it is fake is because I know a number of the crew on this ship who were on her and they have flat stated that it never happened. There have been a number of fake photos running around that are computer generated. Good though they are and as good as they are for discussion, it just isn't so. <G>
