Default Hotel Advice in Tampa

I need to book a room (rooms) for 4 of us in Tampa for the night before our cruise. I'm considering trying Priceline - but I've never used it before. Can anybody give me advice on how I enter the Location for a nice 3 or 4 star hotel. Would we enter it as "airport" area - and then just plan to grab a cab the next day to the port? Or do we go by "downtown"? Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated - as we are not at all familiar with Tampa. Of course, we do want to try for something in a decent area - I was advised to stay away some areas (such as North Mabry) - any other advice?

Thanks in advance

If you're looking for NICE rooms, i'd go with one of the two HYATT's in Tampa. Both are GREAT. One is right on Tampa Bay.

Awesome hotels.... 4 stars!

We like Days Inn Airport on Dale Mabry. They operate a shuttle service to the pier. Room had frig, coffee pot, micro wave, hair dryer, etc $50 per nite.

Hyatt dt, Mariott and Radison Riverside, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino are all suppose to be excellent. I have pics. of the exterior of the Radisson and Hard Rock Casino. You can email me and I'll send them to you. Make sure you put in your subject line that you are from cruisemates so I don't delete your email. I know other cruisers who have used one of those on line sites and got really cheap rates for the Hyatt.

Good Morning Everyone!

JoyceR, trying checking out these two websites before you bid - they give great advice about just this subject:

http://www.biddingfortravel.com
http://www.betterbidding.com

They talk all about how to bid for a 3 or 4 star hotel, and the members seem very knowledgeable about all the different neighborhoods, so you can ask them which ones would be best for you.

Good Luck and happy bidding on Priceline!

Cathy in NYC

Joyce,

I booked a while ago and got AmeriSuites (Airport) for $69/night. It includes a nice continental breakfast and shuttle from the airport.

I just checked and the going rate is $89/night if you've got AAA.

We've stayed with AmeriSuites many times in the past (not Tampa, but in NJ, MI, etc.) and always found the room spacious and clean as well as a great value.

We'll see you on the ship! (if not at the hotel the day before)

Tracey

On another website someone had posted they received a room at the Radisson RiverWalk for $59.00. It's very nice and they have a free shuttle that goes within a two mile radius of the hotel. Cruise terminal is less than a mile! You also have a trolley that goes to Ybor City. (a great Tampa excursion)!! Their are plenty of downtown hotels so I would save the money and not stay near an airport hotel.

I have lived in Tampa my whole life so let me know if you have any questions. I will be glad to help.
