getting cash

How difficult is it to obtain cash on the ship? Does the pursers desk operate as a mini-bank or are there cash machines on the ship?

I don't want to have to use the cash machine if I don't have to; charges for advances, etc. make it something I don't want to have to consider, especially in light of the fact that I've been pre-paying on my Visa for some time now to create a nice credit in advance meaning less post cruise traumatic shock (as a result of the first credit card bill after the trip!).

I would rather make a charge on my credit card at the Pursers desk for cash - do they allow for this?

I know my other options are travellers cheques and some cash, but I'm just so used to using my debit card that nothing seems as convenient.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

The purser's desk will let you cash traveler's checks there but I don't beleive they do cash advances on a credit card. The ATM on board charges $5.00 in addition to your bank charges. I wouldn't use the ATM in any of the ports. I would bring some cash and the balance in traveler's checks.

I believe you can get money (chips) in the Casino using your sail-and-sign card, which would ultimately be charged to your credit card at the end of the trip. They do charge a service fee (3% I think) for the transaction.

I think you can use the casino to get cash if they think you will spend it in the casino you just have to use your sign and sail card. This may have changed but I did it on the Victory a couple of years ago no problem.
