casino winnings

Is it possible to win any money in the ship's casino? Everyone I speak to tells me that the odds of winning anything are worse on cruise ships than anywhere else. I plan on spending some "quality" time in the casino and I was hoping it MIGHT be profitable.

I did well on the slots the first few days, lost on the last few. Could just be I was willing to walk away at the beginning of the cruise and just kept pumping them in at the end. Played the roulette wheel but that's fickle everywhere.

Re: casino winnings

On my cruise on the Paradise in December,2000, I won about $220.00 at once on a slot machine. Of cource I spent it all and thensome throughout the cruise in one way shape or form. But I got an invite later on in the week to get my picture taken for free in front of the machine that I had won on.
I would venture to guess that cruiseline slots are not at all that loose. Probibly most if not all of them are set to pay out at the minimum % which I believe is 86%.

I was just reading somewhere, and now I've forgotten where that someone won the jackpot on Jubilee - it was over a million bucks, so its possible, but certainly not probable. I'm sure you'd have a better chance in Vegas and I for one have never had really good luck there either.

Good luck to you!

i am so happy to hear that passengers are winning on the ships and congrats and good luck to all of you. i live 25 miles from 3 casino boats. the sound of the slot bells, the catchy tunes they make and the occasional winning hoot and holler frenzy of a winner gets by blood going like all gamblers feel. but i have learned over the years that i might as well stand on the deck and toss the money overboard. i am just one gambler that does not have any good luck. so i save my money for other things instead of playing the slots and WISH i was setting on a chair and pulling that arm.

good luck to all of you.

my mother in law was on a roll the first few days on the Celebration in early May... but you better believe the line wanted their money back & by the end of the cruise... they got it & much more ! Quit while you're ahead !

In all of my 9 cruises only once did I win big in the casino. I happened to be on my 2 week back to back on the Triumph and I hit slot jackpot twice and won big at blackjack. It paid for my entire cruise, including sign and sail card... It can happen, but don't plan on it to happen often.

Its best to view any gambling time as entertainment. While its possible to win and win big its just not something you should go to the casino planning on. You can increase your chances by playing table games like blackjack, using basic strategy can lower the house odds and whilebasic strategy doesnt mean you will win all the time, it at least allows you to play for a little bit longer.

Have a great time and decide how much you are willing to wager before you set foot in the casino.

Re: casino winnings

I have been told and it makes perfect sense that for the first couple of days the odds on the slots are alot higher so that people win more...which translates into getting addicted and playing more. Then on the second half of the cruise they change the odds lower so that they get all their money back (but you're already addicted cause you won so much the first few days you think you can hit it just one more time) but before you know it all your winnings and then some are put safely back into the belly of the slot. Its a vicious circle. So as hard as it really is, play the first few days and take your money and run away from the casino as fast as you can. Or play table games if the casino bug is hitting really hard.

As an avid slots player, I found that the machines onboard the Paradise DID NOT Pay out at all!! I tried many times but there was just nothing happening. I don't know if they're on a different sort of accountability system ona ship, but I just felt like the machines were set so that nothing would pay. If I ever go on a cruise again, I would NOT play the slots!

I was on the Victory in May and a young lady won $2500 on one of the slots.

Sometimes I win..sometimes I lose and sometimes I break even. I go with the idea of losing and I allow myself $100 a day gambling money. When it's gone...it's gone, if I'm winners I take my winnings and buy myself a little gift. The last time I won I was able to buy myself a Canon Digital Rebel camera and still have my gambling money intact!

I'll offer a dissenting opinion to those who love slots...

Personally, I hate slots. Note that I don't hate people who love slots, I just hate slots. My time in the casino has varied - always play a lot of blackjack, but I have played roulette, and my new vice, craps. I spend every night in the casino for well more than a few hours, but I've never left a cruise losing more than $50-$60 or so. Last cruise I finished $90 ahead for the week on craps.

Don't gamble to win - gamble to have fun, and you will. Sure, I may miss out on big jackpots by staying away from the slots, but I have the most fun in the ship casinos!

Was on the Celebration in early June. I did not win anything. My mother won about $200 the first couple of days. After that, she really did not hit any thing else. She played more than I did.

Re: casino winnings

Changing the payout structure on a slot machine during a cruise is a myth and not to be believed. It simply is not that easy to do as they must follow the ICCI rules which are based on Las Vegas and U.K. gambling laws. In Las Vegas the house advantage can be as high as 17% by law, but does not necessarily have to be that high.

That means if you put in $100 you can expect to get back $83 at the least. Some machines are programmed to pay out higher. You need to find these machines.

The best odds in the casino are on the craps table. Bet on the pass or don't pass line and the casino odds are 1.41%. Also, the blackjack table provides good odds for the player if you play perfect blackjack strategy. And rolling the dice or selecting cards cannot be programmed! STAY AWAY FROM SLOTS!!!!!!!!

Thomas

Awwww, I like to play the slots....for awhile. I'd LOVE to learn craps and I even went to a site someone listed where you can play, but I guess I'm too stupid to learn. Now that you said to play on the pass/don't pass...that might make it a little easier for me.

I like Roulette too. My favorite straight up number is 32....I always play that number when I'm playing all the others.

On the Spirit in May 2004 I watched a slot player win $539,500+ The bells rang for half an hour driving us blackjack players crazy. Heard they won't pay out on that for a couple weeks while the machine is checked for tampering and the winner is checked out for possible relationship with Carnival. It was a sweet guy who put in 3 dollars. Love to see it!!

i live within 25 miles of 3 casino boats. when i cruised on the carnival spirit last sept i was able to walk right through the casino and not even want to put my money in any of the machines and pull the handle.

i have plenty of oppotunity to do gamble all i want at home so it was more important for me too use the money for a tour or a souvenier. besides i might at well toss the money overboard as much luck as i have.

good luck to all of you who play.

Re: casino winnings

We go to the casinos on an average of 12 times a year..an old gambler told me once that if you hit a big one..100.00 or more..leave and go to the malls or shops and spend it right then on something you not normally buy yourself..that way the casino does not get that money back..and you still have your stake at hand. I tried it and IT WORKS. Just MHO
