I am finally going on my first cruise!!! Is the only way to pay the bill for the spending card after your cruise (and being surprised by the amount you've spent?? Is there a way to prepay a set amount to attempt to control your spending?
You put money on your Sail & Sign card at the beginning of your cruise, any amount that you want. I think if you put cash down on it, then you cannot go over that amount. And if your balance starts getting low then Carnival slips a letter under your cabin door to notify you and you can add more cash to your Sail & Sign card if you wish. Also, I've seen at another cruise site on the boards that alot of people use charge cards.. somehow Carnival attaches your charge card to your Sail & Sign card so that you can use your Sail & Sign card as your credit card ONLY onboard.
Hope this helps.

Think of the Sail-n-Sign as your ATM card. You can only take out of your account what you put in. The cruise line also takes your credit card number just in case at the end of the cruise you still have a balance due. On your t.v. you can check you balance, or you can go to the Purser's desk and talk to them. I always put whatever I am going to spend that day on my card the same day. That way, if I loose the card and someone else uses it, they won't get much. Expect the tips for the cruise to be placed on the Sail-n-Sign card when you board the ship and it is usually $9.50 per person per day.
On Carnival it's $10 per person, per day for tips.
