Default St. Thomas Ferry to St. John

I understand from past postings that there are two ferry choices to go from St. Thomas to St. John. My question is regarding the ferry that runs from Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas to Cruz Bay, St. John which takes approximately 45 minutes.

Where is the ferry located in respect to the cruise ships? Within walking distance?

Thank you for your assistance and happy sailing.

A lot depends on where your ship will dock or tender. St. Thomas is the busiest cruise port in the world. I believe they can accomodate seven cruise ships at one time depending on the naval base needs at the time. Some are tenders and I believe those would be real handy to the Charlotte-Amalie ferry. The main pier holds three ships and some walk to town, but its about a mile and a half.

The ferry from Charlotte Amalie is on the water front downtown where all the shops are. A taxi ride from the cruise ship to this ferry is between 10 and 15 minutes ride and costs $3/person.

Like someone mentioned earlier, it depends on where your ship winds up at port. Either way though you PROBABLY won't want to walk unless you're someone who really likes walking. The last time we were in St. Thomas it was about 10 minutes by taxi to get back to the ship, and was worth the $3 per person.
