Default Crazy Cruise Stories

O.K.- The bump in the night thing AND the luggage in the ocean thing got me thinking... we cruisers have plenty of stories to tell. Now, I don't want to scare away any future cruisers, but lets talk about crazy cruise stories. here's my most recent one:
-We were travelling on the Island Princess panama canal cruise back in april when we had a crazy incident in the dining room!- The banana flambe that the head waiter had talked about for days had set off the water sprinkler above a table near us. They were a course ahead of us, so we weren't even eating dessert yet, when an explosion of water caught everyone's attention. The water came so fast and so much of it- that several waiters took turns holding up the big garbage cans and in less than a minute, they were filled. No other sprinklers went off. I don't believe it was formal night, but i am sure those at that table got reimbursed for clothing & such. There was rumored talk amongst the tables as to the ship sinking due to the weight of the water all on that one side of the dining room, but I didnt fall for it, after all- all of that water was already in the pipe system, it just was now on the floor instead.
Share a crazy cruise story, but lets not scare the newbies!
S~
P.S.- Nobody got any more banana flambe on the cruise- and the special breakfast both in dining room AND in buffet were banana pancakes (Leftovers!)

Another banana flambee story!!! In 1984 I cruised on Mardi Gras. In those days the waiters carried the flaming trays on their heads. They were singing and dancing their way through the dining room with the trays. It had been quite rough and that night the ship was swaying. As a waiter went around a chair the ship swayed and the tray tipped, dumping the hot bananas and sauce all over a couple sitting there. Dining room staff came running to help the couple. Fortunately they were not burned but their clothes were ruined. They lived in the same area as we do so we met them on the flight home. They both said they were more embarrassed than anything.

Last night blues!! My friend and I were on the Celebration in 1992. On the last evening of the cruise she went back to the room to finish packing. That done she got into her night clothes and took out her dentures for the night. Then she settled in to relax with a book. Late in the evening she opened the door to put out her luggage. She looked up and down the hall. No one around she stepped out in her night clothes and placed her luggage by the door. Before she could go back in the door swung shut, locking her out in the hall. I had stayed in the casino and she was alone there. There she stood for quite a while. Finally along came a cabin steward, not ours . she appealed to him for help. He claimed not to understand english, kept motioning to her to follow him. Reluctantly she did. He took her down the hall into the main lobby. There she was facing the pursers desk with nothing on but her night clothes and no teeth in her mouth. The officer on duty escorted her back to her room and let her back in the cabin. She was very embarrassed but looks back on it now as a priceless cruise memory.

This may be more of a YUCK story than a crazy one but here it is....

On our first and only cruise last month on the Paradise dh and I decided to try out the dining room for lunch around the second or third day. We were seated at a table with another couple and their baby who was in his stroller. While we tried to chat and eat the baby continued to whine and fuss, nothing major but it was a continuous whine. Rocking the stroller back and forth for several minutes did not help so finally the wife asks the husband to take the baby out of the carriage. He picks him up and then says, "Oh, so that's the problem." His wife looks over then quickly takes the baby from her husband. She then informs us that they'd taken the baby to the infirmary that morning for constipation problems but now they won't have to worry about it anymore....and then proceeds to lift the baby up for all of us at the table to see that this poor guy had a terrible diaper blowout that was running all the way up and down his back!

Did we really need to see that while we dined? Hello?!

This isnt really about the ship its what happened to a friend on the ship.OK well lets give you all a visual she stands about 4 1/2 ft tall or so ..So we decided to go to the gym our husbands in tow .We hop on the treadmill they are at the weight benches behind us ..After about 20 mins I see somthing out of the coner of my eye go flying..I look back i t was my friend and shes laying on the ground and a strange man was standing above her asking if shes ok..I look back to find our husbands laughing their asses off so hard they couldnt even find out how she was..What had happened was she said she closed her eyes and let go WHY I dont know...But we lauhged about it all day(she was ok just a little rug burn here n there) BUT thats not all...........The next day we went to bingo and sat right up front .Host Champange was his name was giving out mardi gras beads through them here n there we all have our hands up finally through 1 our way but that wasnt good enough my friend wanted more.....So Champange took a handful and dropped them in the middle of the floor leading up to the stage so she takes off running for the beads we are all watching her she leaps tripping over the side of the stairs a tummbles to the floor rolling around on the ground in her little terry cloth dress/white panties yes that everyone saw..But she got those beads...The host razzed her about that the reaminder of the cruise..But she was a great sport..I havent laughed like that in a long time ........................................

Back in 1998 I had given one of my best friends some vouchers for a Carnival cruise that CCL had given to me for a problem they had on the cruise I was on (it was minor but they gave it to all of the passengers)..She and her girlfriend were excited but the morning that she was suppose to leave she called me up and told me to turn on CNN and it showed her ship (Ecstacy ???) on fire and being towed into Miami.

Needless to say, they did not go on their cruise but Carnival gave them great compensation and she was able to go on another cruise

March 2001, on a HAL cruise with my DS and DB, their spouses, we booked an ocean snorkeling excursion in Nassau on a two story boat. It was my DH and myself first time to ocean snorkel and the water was a little too rough but we still went. Out in the middle of the ocean while going about 40 - 50 mph, my DB was standing on the back deck with his towel hanging around his neck just talking, when he decided to lean again the stairs, thinking it was secure. NOT! It was the stairs they use to drop down to get into the water... and off he went into the water!! Everyone yells man over board, the crew immediately slowed down to turn around to get him, throwing him the life ring, he climbs back up the SAME stairs into the boat with everyone applauding and his DW says..."Honey, that's your towel for the day"! Everyone had a good laugh and we went on to have a good excursion. Now we are getting ready to cruise again in 6 weeks!! He'd better behave!

Shelly! OMG, I was having a rough afternoon yesterday, and suddenly your story popped into my head. I almost had to pull over my car.

The best part of the whole story is her explanation "shut my eyes and just let go." Then your comment "WHY I don't know..." ROF! That is just soooo funny! (scary enough, it sounds like something I would try to do, but woulndt be brave enough to see what happens!! )

Oh my gosh, I am chuckling again!!

Thanks again, for that story. It is soooo funny!!!!

Got to the port in St Thomas and it was drizzling. We were traveling with 21 18 and 15
year old girls who whine a lot. We decided GET OUT OF BED and pretend to be little kids paying in the puddles. We took a taxing to coral word because we could also
walk over to Coki beach and snorkle two excurasion for price of one in my mind.
I left with $100.00, and wife $100.00 After Coral world walked over rented rented
snorkling equipment One of the girls wanted hair braids wife didn't discuss price. many beers and lunch. Daughter 2 now also wanted hair braids wife discussed
discount for the two with this wonderful lady. Her husband owns the snorkeling
equipment ,Deven He was from Jamaica and huge accent and long dreds. when we went to pay for the braids we found that we had spent all but $10.00. After expaining to them that we now didn't have money for taxi back to ship (panic attack here) He said
"ah don't worry mon I will just give you a ride to the local bus stop" went looking for his car, he said he missplaced it. Then "there it is mon. green 1968 V.W. bug, o well
he said, ladies in and you push me down hill to get going. I jump in, he lights up some gongi and the six of us are off to the bus stop.
