Okay folks, I just got an e-mail from a friend, (staff), onboard the Triumph and John did not come aboard this Sat as originally planned. He is fine and will be arriving in Miami this week and assigned to a ship the following week. I am sorry to say, it will not be the Triumph as the plans have changed. It is not the Valor though, that much I can tell you but it is a newer ship. <G> Just not sure if the assignement is common knowledge yet and one of the reasons people tell me thinks is that I don't blab it all over until it is officially released. Wish I could tell you more, maybe next week.
Okay, cat's out of the bag now anyway. John is going on the ....Glory.... next week. His sidekick Ralph did rejoin the Triumph the 3rd of July so those going on the Triumph will still have a couple of great social hosts in Ralph and Kevin. I don't know what happened about him going on the Triumph but he was supposed to and it got changed at the last moment last Friday.
Jo and others, I was just talking to Carlos who is still onboard the Triumph as the CD. He does not know how long he will remain onboard as he was scheduled to leave last week when John wsas supposed to come onboard. He said he will try and give me a heads up when he gets moved etc but right now things are pretty much up in the air. I can tell you that at this time Carlos is the CD and Ralph is the Asst. CD and Kevin is the social host. All three have worked together in the past and are a great bunch of guys.
Cruzn Buckeye we're sailing together! Maybe we'll run into each other.
I've heard such good things about John Heald that I'm delighted he'll be on the Glory 9/11. Thanks for keeping us up to date, Jim. You're a real handy guy to have around.

John Heald is probably the most entertaining cruise director that Carnival has. You will laugh until you cry. I've been a fan of his for many years and he still makes me laugh. You have to see him at least once to understand!
I was sorry we didn't get to see John when we sailed on the Triumph on July 10. Carlos was a lot of fun though. My husband hated his LAUGH though. My kids immitate it real well. They say "Another georgous day at sea" and then giggle like Carlo. Too funny. Jim, who is Ralph? I don't remember any Ralph. Wee Jimmy was there and he is a riot (way funnier than Carlo if you ask me). The other social hosts we encountered were Noonan and Gillian.
I'm gonna get roastedfor this BUT...I was on the Triumph in May and was a bit disappointed in John Herald. Yes, he's very funny and his shows were great. However, on "other" cruise lines, the CD is out and about and meeting people. I never once saw John Herald anywhere but in the showroom. Just my opinion, but I think the CD should be a little more visible. Please don't be TOO mean to me!
How weird that you should post that...I was just going to post that one of the things we LOVE about John is that he always seems to remember you whenever you bump into him either on the ship or in port! And here you are never bumping into him! *L*....Ya just never know, I guess!
But we love John....and remember HIM from our very first cruise a ver-r-r-ry long time ago on Carnival....he wasn't CD, then....young and slim.....Now neither he nor we are young OR slim! **....
I never saw him walking around the ship either on my Triumph cruise. My only beef was the fact that I found out many of the funny things the people on stage said or did that were supposed to look spontaneous were actually scripted. Suppose I should have known that there wouldn't be a "Richard (Dick) Wooden" on board or that a 90 year old guy would drop his pants oonstage and have smiley face boxers on. Call me naive but it burst my bubble a little! I don't really go on the cruises for the stage shows anyways so it doesn't matter to me who the CD is.

Sorry. Ralph IS Wee Jimmy. Also Kevin is Noonan. I sometimes forget and call them by their given names and not what they go by onboard ship. Carlos does have a wierd laugh and looks so much younger than he is. He is really very intense about his job as a CD and works hard at his craft. Actually he is a little too polite at times and we tend to bring him down a notch or two just for fun. <VBG>
You will love John Heald! We have only cruised with him once. Some say the cd doesn't matter....they probably have not cruised with John! Don't miss the welcome aboard show. He sets you up for lots of fun things throughout the cruise! Out of 12 cruises the one with John on the Imagination long ago was the funnest. We had great ports, great shows...lead singer from the Platters performed...., great tablemates, and the best cd on the seas...who could ask for anything more???????
Thanks Jim for the name clarification. Who would have know that people go by different names? I still think Wee Jimmy is the funniest. Anyway, Carlos appeared to me to be in his 30's. How old is he actually? We enjoyed him, "georgous days" and his giggle.
CD related question...I am going on the Miracle Aug 14th. I heard that the new cruise director on board is not good (especially when you compare him to the person that he replaced). Does anyone have more specific information?
We did not like Carlo on the Triumph last week. Thought he acted too "silly" and that his lines were too canned. He needs some polish. Now, Wee Jimmy we loved! We made a point to mention him on our comment cards and to tell him in person how much we appreciated his fun with the passengers. I wish Carnival would get rid of some of their activities. Some of them are the same thing we saw 10 years ago (hairy chest contest), although I will admit that the new Survivor game was good.
