Having experienced the worst mixing/selection of dance music during my maiden cruise on the Fantasy, I was wondering if anyone has ever gotten a ship DJ to play one of their CDs? I will be packing some great mixed techno music on my Imagination voyage in November so I may offer it up if I don't like what I hear.
Well, good news for you... I have experienced a DJ that will play your music. A cruisemate of mine really likes 80's club music (example: TKA) The DJ not only gave it a shot but also borrowed it for a day to burn it for his collection.
Altough it was a smaller ship and a quieter club, all you have to do is chat a bit with the DJ. Like the rest of the workers on the ship, they are there to please.
If you are bringing your own "techno" musice to listen to for your own enjoyment - good for you. I don't feel that you should try to impose your style of music on others. I'm sure that all the ships DJ"s are compitent and able to play the right mix of muxic for the crowd. You have to remember that in some of these dance clubs (and there may be several on each ship) the DJ has a wide range of people from age to music tastes. It is the job of the DJ to ensure patrons are having a good time and that the dance floor is always at capacity.
Having organized several charitable events in my community and hiring DJ's, I have often questioned the mic of music he selected. Although 80% of it was not to my liking his answer was "look at the dance floor", "it's full isin't it?" And that's all one could ask for.
However, with respect to a DJ playing one or two tracks from your personal collection. That may not be so easy. It would mean that the DJ would have to accomodate everyone's request to play their own personal music.
Based on the crowd age that I saw in the club I was in -- techno would be far preferable to what was being played. Like I said, I like old disco music, but I think a bit of techno slipped in would work great. I mean, what do dance clubs in the big cities play? Techno. It's the new disco music.
I would def. chat up the DJ and see if I could get a few fave songs played if the music is lame. I will do the same thing if the DJ doesn't have any of the songs I wanna hear. It doesn't seem like an unreasonable request, and as long as you frame your conversation w/ the DJ correctly, I would be suprised if you have any problems. I totally know what you mean about the music though. My only experience was on RCCL and there were definately a couple times that I walked out of the dance club because the music was boring and the place was empty (on a full sailing). I figured it was just their strategy to keep us all in the Casino. =) A nice little mix never killed no one(that I know of) Have Fun
