Default 25 yr min age to cruise?

Hi - I have already purchased tickets through travelocity for a jan 7-night cruise on the miracle. Recently I was poking through expedia's website and they had a disclaimer posted that there must be at least one guest over 25 yrs of age in each cabin. My boyfriend and I are 23 and 22, respectively, and I was just wondering if this rule, which expedia says is Carnival's own, is strictly applied (maybe no, since I already purchased the tickets about 6 months ago!). Truthfully, I think a 25 yr age limit is a bit high, is this true?

Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied by some 25 or older, so you're okay.

Yeah I booked thru the same website and have had to call them for various reasons. During this process they grilled me about my age, but only to verify that my friend and I are both 21. Since you both are- Have Fun!

You can cruise if you are over 21 by yourself. If one of the passengers is under 21 there has to be a chaperone 25 or older sharing the cabin.

From Carnival's website -

How old do you have to be to travel alone?

Guests are required to be 21 years old (on embarkation day) to travel. Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom by a parent or guardian 25 or older. The exceptions Carnival will make to this policy are:

1) Parents that are traveling with their children in different staterooms. The bookings must be cross-referenced and documented that they are parents and children traveling together.

2) Grandparents that are traveling with their grandchildren in different staterooms. The bookings must be cross-referenced and documented that they are grandparents and grandchildren traveling together.

3) Married minor couple. The booking must be documented that the couple is married. The couple must have proof of marriage at embarkation or they will be denied boarding without the benefit of a refund.

4) Domestic Partners/Same-Sex Union minor couple. The booking must be documented that the couple are legal Domestic Partners/Same-Sex Union. The couple must have legal proof of partnership/union at embarkation or they will be denied boarding without the benefit of a refund.

Guest ages will be verified at embarkation. Guests not conforming to this policy will be denied boarding and assessed a 100% cancellation penalty. NO exceptions will be made at embarkation.

The Group policy is slightly different because of stricter group terms and conditions including mandatory chaperones, damage deposits and other considerations.

They do check the ages of passengers at boarding. Do you know someone 25 yrs. old who could go too and stay in your cabin?

Samantha2000 says:

......My boyfriend and I are 23 and 22,....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dorothy says:

Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied by some 25 or older, ....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore like Dorothy also said, they are okay to cruise. Samantha and her boyfriend are 22 and 23 years old. Pretty sure 22 and 23 come after the age of 21.

So Samantha go and have a GREAT TIME!!!. Is this your guys' first cruise??

Just wondering how did you book a cabin and both of you under 25 years old? My son could not book a cabin without someone 25 or older also booked in his cabin.

The TA talked to Carnival they said since he was 20 yrs. old Carnival insisted that he have someone 25 yrs. old or older booked in his cabin on the Pride, or they would not allow him to book the cabin. We didn't complain about it, I'm sure Carnival has their reasons for the requirement. We had his Dad book in his cabin and we all went on the Pride and had a wonderful time.

yes, see, that is why he was not able to book. You have to be at least 21 years old to book a cruise. If you are not at least 21 years old, then you have to have a 25 year old or older in the same cabin with you. Okay and I will say it other ways too, incase it still doesn't make sense to others...

--Anyone UNDER the age of 21 needs a 25 year old with them in the same cabin. If you are 21 and over then you are okay to book and be alone in a cabin.

Example : A 20 and 21 year old cannot book to be alone in the same cabin. the 20 year old needs a 25 year old with him/her. However the 21 year old would be okay to be alone.

--Its NOT that you have to be 25 years old to book! It is that you have to be AT LEAST 21 years old in order to book and be alone in your cabin or with someone older then you.

Make sense everyone? :-)

So bjkeen, if your son was 1 year old he would have been okay to book a cruise.

Kim,
What? No, it's not my rule - look in the back of your Carnival brochure you will see a Minor Guests:
"Guest under the age of 21 yrs. must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent or guardian 25 years or older in the same stateroom. Infants must be at least four months old to be eligible to travel" ect. The TA wasn't allowed by Carnival to book the cabin for my son unless he had someone 25 yrs. old or older also booked in his cabin.

BJ no one said it was your rule. I think you aren't getting what we are saying:

ANYONE under 21 must have a guest at least 25 book with them. IF your son was 20, then he couldn't book a room, couldn't buy booze, etc.

But the original poster stated she and her boyfriend were 22 and 23 respectively, so they will not have a problem. If your son had been 21 HE wouldn't have had a problem, either.

Bj you said it yourself

"Guest under the age of 21 yrs. must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent or guardian 25 years or older in the same stateroom.

Read that sentence... again and again... it really makes sense of why your TWENTY year old son couldn't book. Had he been TWENTY ONE years old then he could have booked. I have to be honest with you, it also took me time to actually understand that same sentence and understand why my friend was not able to book a cruise with her 22 year old boyfriend when she was 18 years old even though he was over the age of 21. which was because she was not at least 21 years old at the time. So she needed a 25 year old with her.

If your son was 21 years old he could have booked. It does not say that you have to be at least 25 years old to book a cabin. That is not what the statement is saying. I am 22 years old, and my cousin is 21 her and I could have a cabin together because we are AT LEAST 21 years old, therefore we do NOT need to be accompanied by a parent or someone over the age of 25.

I think I'm running out of ways to explain this...

Edition: Oh, maybe re-read some of the other posts too, that may help a bit. :-)

Yes, you are right.

If I'm not clear I apologize; I have Hurricane Stress. Charley was headed right for my area, just before it hit land it turned. It demolished parts of the next county and other counties across the state. I have a great deal of relief, guilt and sadness.

See if this makes more sense........
My son was 20 yrs. old when we sailed on the Pride, he booked himself a cabin on the Pride. The ta said he had to have someone 25 yrs. old also book in his cabin. He did, and we had a wonderful cruise. He is 21 yrs. old now and we are cruising on the Miracle soon. He has a cabin booked for himself again.

Have a wonderful cruise!

Hi again. I'm sorry to have started such confusion! Although I cruised on the Pride last year, Norwegian, and Big Red Boat with family members previously... this is my first cruise without a parent. I'm looking forward to it, albeit a little early! It's actually a delayed celebration for my college graduation this past May and will probalby end up being a much needed break from grad school.

Thanks for all the info, these boards are really a great source of info, especially for those of us nervous taking a cruise somewhat alone for the first time (my boyfriend has never cruised, hopefully he'll like it!).
