Default Tropical - remember when ...

Memory lane -

Does anyone remember the Carnival Tropical? What became of this ship? No water slide but we managed to have fun.

Just think, the Carnival Glory is equal to 3 (almost 4) Tropicals - in total ship weight.
We've come a long way, baby.

I believe the ship is now the Costa Tropicale - sailing mainly European itineraries. for the Italian cruise market.

Our first cruise was on Tropicale,, 7 islands in 7 day, from san jaun.
Cruised 3 more time on Tropicale, i still think bigger is not better.

Carnival's first purpose-built ship, Tropicale, served in the fleet until 2000, when there was a fire on board and with many new ships entering the fleet, it was best to eliminate her from the lineup. She was fixed up and transfered to subsidiary line Costa Cruises.

The fire was minor and the precess and decision to transfer it to the Costa brand name had already been done prior. The ship did undergo a refurbishment and is very successful sailing in European waters under the Costa name. We have cruised on this ship twice ourselves.

Great to read each of your comments!

I agree, there's something positive to be said for the more intimate size ships. Wonder what cruise ships will be like in another 20 years?

Get out there and cruise! Willy
