We will be on the Conquest for Thanksgiving and want to snorkle in Grand Cayman. All of the tours that we see include the stingrays. We want to spend all of the time of our tour just snorkling. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Thanks so much!!
My husband and I plan to snokel Grand Cayman while on Conquest in 2005. After doing a little research I've decided that a excursion isn't necessary because shore snorkeling seems good there. If you search Grand Cayman shore snorkeling on the net you'll find sites that list snorkeling spots that are only a few minutes walk to the left and right of the cruise peir. I think we will use Abanks' Diving Center, apparently also very near the peir, to rent a locker and any equioment we don't feel like taking with us like fins. Basically we plan to self-tour snorkel on Cozumel also.
There are some good snorkeling spots off the shore in GC but if you've never done the stingray snorkel, I would highly recommend it. Once in a lifetime. The snorkeling off the shore in Cozumel is good at Chakanaab Park. Abanks is good but a tricky entry, watch yourself. Nothing worse then getting hurt on a cruise. Experience talking here.
You also may want to look at excursions that snorkel in a few spots including Sting Ray City, its really the highlight of Grand Cayman, you may just love it. I know we certainly did, its a once in a lifetime kind of thing...
