Default Carnival statement on ships

Hey, this is a notice concerning Carnival Ships due to Hurricane Frances that just came out at a little after 5PM EDT so make your plans accordingly. Look for more information on FFL and Cape C very soon;:

Subject: Deviation - All Miami Homeport ships - hurricane Frances

To Whom It May Concern,

Please be advised that due to hurricane Frances, all of the vessels presently scheduled to arrive in Miami on Friday Sept 3, 2004(Fascination); Saturday, Sept 4, 2004(Imagination/Triumph) and Sunday Sept 5, 2004(Paradise) will probably be delayed. The Port of Miami is tentatively scheduled to close tomorrow, Thursday Sept 2, 2004. If the port should close, it is not known at this time, when the port will re-open, in which case, all Miami homeport vessels will safely await the re-opening of the port before proceeding into port.

Captain Gardiner Nealon

Manager of Port Logistics

I am glad these ships are staying out of harms way. And I am sorry for those who will be delayed.

I wonder if they have to stay out a day or two longer, are the passengers charged extra?

And those who cannot get on the ship, do they extend the itinary, refund based on the shortened days or what?

I guess the weather can really mess up a cruise schedule. Don't you they have a big headache on their hands, along with many disapointed travelers.

Hope for the best.

TC

the cruise lines know what they are doing (they have to do it every year during the hurricane season)..rates are lower and deals are better during the "season" (exlcuidng the summer sessios when the kids are out)..so people should not get too upset if ports change or delays occur..that's part of the deal, that's part of the experience

ARRRGH! I hope they don't delay Paradise more than a few hours. A night departure is fine with me but I can't afford to miss a day, we might cancel Cabo and there goes one of the best ports!
I'm checking with the captain now though.

Oh, man.....that it so awful. We're not sailing (just got off our cruise a couple of weeks ago) but I feel so bad for anyone whose cruise might be delayed. I can think of worse things that being stuck on a cruise ship for an extra day or so, but to MISS a day....THAT would make me cry!

Keep checking your flights and cruise ship info at the cruiselines main webpage. The forecast is changing all the time and it is still too early to know exactly where it will be Sat and Sunday. Last reports put it coming in at Jupiter Inlet and crossing Florida into Orlando/Ocala area but that is still subject to change some. It is a huge and powerful hurricane and is expected to cause widespread destruction in the state.

If we Floridians learned anything from Charley, it is that these hurricanes are almost impossible to predict. I know it must really create stress, especially for those who have to fly in. We live in the Tampa Bay area, and we boarded up and provisioned for Charley, and then he took a right, headed east and, well we all know what happened next. Many people evacuated from here and actually went to the area where the storm hit because it was not forecasted to go there. It is anybodies guess until big ole fat Frances makes landfall.

It will be interesting to hear about what happens when the cruise stays at sea longer than expected. Don't they run out of provisions? Fuel? I guess they must plan for such things, especially around this time of the year.

What is important is that all are safe, and the scary thing is that this is the big mac daddy storm and some people are bound to be hurt. Prayers for all.

Hey Hockeyluver, what a thing to remember. Missing the first day of University cause you were "stuck out at sea" on a cruise ship! As long as they're all doing well though, and making the best of the situation. My prayers are with you and your sister's family hoping for their safe return home :-) As well as everyone else out there at sea in the same situation.

God Bless you all
