I have been on Carnival 5 times - many great times with older and the newer ships and Royal Carribean's Voyager of the Seas (Canada)once - IMO - Carnival had many more activities - One day at sea from 10am to 1pm the only things that were scheduled were towel folding and a digital camera sales pitch that they had everyday a couple times a day. This may have been the Canada itinerary. Through the entire cruise there were very few activities scheduled. VOS was great with the climbing wall, ice rink etc - I just wish Carnival owned the Voyager Class ships - now that would be a perfect.
I was also turned off a little by the way some people make reference about Carnival throughout the cruise - (in my experience while talking to some of the other passengers and the listening to the comedians) - It Seems to me you shouldn't be worried about Carnival Cruiselines when your on a Royal Carribbean Cruise.
I had a good time on both lines but I think Carnival is better for my taste.
We are going on our first cruise in October and were wondering what Crown & Anchor Membership is and how do you sign up? Also, I'm curious about my dad's statement that tipping will "nickel and dime us to death," any comments? Thanks, Cris
Hubby & I both like Carnival without a doubt! We've cruised on the Paradise numerous times and just love the ship. We just got off of our first RCCL cruise and agreed that we'll go back to Carnival next time. The food is so much better with a MUCH better selection! I had halibut one night and I was sorry I did. It was VERY bland!
Also, one day when we had returned from a sunny day in Ensenada, we wanted to go to the dining room which was advertised to be open until 4p. We got there at 3p and was told that they closed it early but we could go out to the buffet near the pool. Well, it was all in the sun with the band blasting it's music and tons of people! We complained that they said they were open until 4p and didn't want to be in that environment. The head waiter was very nice and let us come in, but it was slim pickin's. This has NEVER happened on Carnival.
Also, we found much more to do on Carnival....on RCCL's newsletter, the activities were mostly at the spa (trying to sell you stuff, of course!), weight loss discussions, how to play certain games in the casino. On Carnival, they had more trviia games, arts and crafts and other fun things to do besides attempting to get more money from you. Also a digital camera demonstration from their camera shop...and guess what that was for??
Also, you can get 24 hour a day pizza on Carnival...on RCCL it was only from 4p to 7p.. well, who wants pizza just before you have dinner??
In addition, the staterooms are much larger on Carnival. We were really surprised at the layout of the room on RCCL....they had one person laying on outside of the bed so if the person near the wall had to get up in the middle of the night, you had to crawl over the other person. Not fun at all!
