I noticed on the Carnival website that this is a 7 hour excursion . It doesn't list any meals or access to restaurants though. Anyone who has done this...how do we do lunch? Also, does anyone who was there recently remember how much the excursion costs? (Besides $$ on the Carnival website).
Just got back on the Sensation. The Tulum trip is $79 per person. Departs at 8:45am and returns at 4:00pm. After the 40 min boat ride to Playa del Carmen you get on the bus for a 1 hour bus ride. They give you a snack bag with crackers, muffins, chips, banana and a boxed fruit drink. Make sure you bring water, hat, and sun screen!!! After touring the grounds there is a small shopping area where you could get something to eat but no one on our bus did. On the way back they will drop you off at the peir where you got on (by the ship). There is a shopping area there. Or they will drop you of downtown and you will have to take a cab back to the ship (approx $6.00). We needed to be back on the ship by 9:30 PM.
We did Tulum in August of 2001 with our then 16 y/o son. He loved it. It was about $75/pp and the only thing I remember getting was soda, water or beer on the return bus ride. There was a Subway at the entrance and we grabbed a sandwich there. Be sure to read what is included or ask at the tour desk if any food is now included. If not, call room service and order muffins, sandwiches, fruit to take with you if it's not against agricultural rules. I've been places where that has applied and seen them check bags getting off and taking food away.
It was soooo hot that day. Like Smiller said, hat, sunscreen and lots of water are a must. Another suggestion that helped us alot, bring a couple of wet wash cloth in a ziploc baggie. So refreshing. Have a great time.

Its been a couple years and didn't go there on a cruise, we were staying in Cancun. However we did a one day trip to both. I can tell you Xel-Ha has plenty of places to eat, its a very nice and fun place to spend the day. If I recall the food was priced so-so. Not cheap, not bad for a park. Its alot of fun and great snorkeling, would love to go back!
I was at Xel-Ha last week. There are at least 4 resturants. The one labled fast food is really table service for items made to order on a grill. The steak tacos were great and reasonably priced. Also try the coconut or mango ice cream from the ice cream stand.
Tulum has a cluster of shops just as you enter from the parking lot. The are also several places there to buy food and/or something to drink.
