As of right now, NO. Carnival is still not changing schedules untill the last miniute (handing out fliers at the gangway!) I'm still hoping also, Grand Cayman news says maybe open mid Nov with pier space for 2 cruise ships. I called Carnival and they said maybe Progresso as an alterate stop, but most ships are having an extra day at sea. Keep your fingers crossed!!! We sail on Miracle 14NOV04.

I hope we get to visit the Cayman Islands. We sail on 11/27/04 on the Inspiration. One of our stops is the Cayman Islands, if we don't get to visit there I hope we get another port of call instead of an extra day at sea.

Unfortunately, the odds seem good of getting another day at sea rather than another port. At least that seems to be how it has gone so far for most Carnival ships that haven't been able to get to GC. I think some went to Progreso, but most stayed at sea.

It makes me wonder... Does Carnival even TRY to find an alternate port? I mean, what's their motivation to? They make more money keeping everyone on board.

If given a choice of extra day at sea or Progresso, give me another day at sea ! Your not missing anything there.

As Bigjohn stated, According to Caymen Island news, hopefully they'll be back in business by mid- November.

Happy cruising;

GC announced they will begin taking 2 ships a day Oct. 29. However, the North Pier suffered severe damage from Ivan and probably won't be able to accept ships until December-ish. Also (this is sad), The Stingray Sandbar: Alot of Stingrays left during Ivan and they are trying to feed those that stayed to avoid a total loss of the popular tourist area.

We too are supposed to be there on 11/27 (Triumph), me thinks we'll have an extra day at sea. Been there several times and have swam w/the Stingrays before, so more Sea days is better then Progresso.

My husband and I just returned from a Western Caribbean cruise out of New Orleans on the Carnival Conquest. One of our ports of call was Grand Cayman however we did not stop there because the hurricanes earlier this Fall got the island. hb

Just returned from the Truimph on Saturday. We were scheduled for GC but were taken to Costa Maya. The port was nice. It wasn't as exciting as GC but was very nice. There were snorkling and ruins excursions available, as well as a nice beach area and a pool that goes right up to a bar. An ampitheater with live free entertainment and lots of shops. I enjoyed it. I wouldn't book a cruise JUST to go to Costa Maya, but it was still nice.

To those that will sail in Nov. Please when you get back let us know If you stopped at GC. I will be on the Miracle Dec.5th and would like to know if the port is open. I have been to GC before but did not do the stingray tour. I wonted to do it this time . Let me know how that tour was, (if the stringrays came back.)Sail in38 days.

I was just looking around on the internet for cruise info I was at "cruisecal.com" which led me to "caymanport.com/schedule.htm".

This sites is suposedly maintianed by Cayman Port Authority.

If you look at todays date it is showing that RCCL's Mariner of the seas was there TODAY. I couldn't find where it said which Island they were visiting... but I am assuming that it is Grand Cayman. If this is the case... This is GREAT NEWS for those of us who have itineraries scheduled for GC. At the bottom of the page it also says that the site was updated today. One stange point is that according to the schedule the ship arrived there at 6:30 am and left at 7:15 am!?!

Anyone else hear anything about GC being open?

PS If you look at next months calendar it looks as though they are fully booked

We are going to Grand Cayman on November and my travel agent received a letter stating that we are going to be stopping there on the Nov 7th cruise. They are allowing 2 ships at a time starting Nov 1, to test the waters. If all goes well they will be open for all.
