With a guarantee or run of the ship booking I was wondering how do you handle your bags at the pier. Do you drag them through the check in process and carry them to your cabin or what. If you don't have a cabin # when you arrive and no tags....I've always had an assinged cabin but may, in the future, consider doing this.
From what i understand, when you arrive at the baggage check in (at the pier) the porters will have your cabin assignment. They will give you tags and take your luggage. Please correct me if i'm wrong because i've never cruised before --but this is what i've heard from other posts on this board.
You will get luggage tags with your packet. They just don't have the cabin number. On the Pride in Feb, we checked in with the head luggage guy on the pier when we arrived, he gave us our cabin number and wrote it on all the tags. This was our only upgrade also, and we only booked three weeks in advance. On the Celebrity, we booked guarantee about 6 weeks before and the next day we saw our cabin number, with no upgrade.
We sailed on the Miracle on 10/24 with a GTY, and our TA included six grey luggage tags with our docs-- the grey tags are for the GTY cruisers, and I think they said something like "Cabin TBA.".
Not sure if the porters at the pier know your cabin number or not-- we unloaded from our car and the porters just chucked the luggage into big bins without looking at tags. I assume it's someone (lots of someones) below deck who sorts it out after it's loaded onto the ship.
Our luggage found its way to our cabin within an hour of boarding-- it was really no problem whatsoever.
