Default how do YOU get through those agonizing days before the cruis

The suspense is killing me!

So, how do YOU get through those long, agonizing days (or months!) before your cruise? Let's be creative!

To get the juices flowing, here's a few things I do:

1- go to cruisemates 12 times a day while at work
2- listen to reggee, jimmy buffett, and other 'island friendly' music
3- have a countdown calander
4- research each port so well that you could be a tour guide there

check and double check the packing and "to do" list
press dress clothes and hang them in the garment bag
make sure camera has film & all electronic devices have fresh batteries
clean out the fridge
cancel the paper, mail etc.
make sure all documents are in order
drive your spouse and kids crazy
pack your carry-on bags
make sure you have enough meds(prescription & OTC) for the week. If you are taking any type of narcotic prescription drug, have a copy of your prescription made and bring it with you.

I start to make my own pina coladas!!! I don't drink much so it's kind of a cool thing to see if I can get one like the ship makes.

I also search the net for the perfect wallpaper or screen saver for my computers. I need one that looks like I can reach out and touch the beach and hear the rythum of the surf...just concentrate on the screen and you can too.

Since we always go in Jan., I ty to stay busy with the holday stuff and that really helps.
Oh yea, I go to a tanning both about three weeks ahead of time...no snow white boys allowed in our cabin!!!! My wife does the fake tan thing that lasts for about a week and really looks pretty good.

Lastly, I think a little on how I'm going to feel when it's over....that helps me to relieve some angst because I stop wishing the weeks away!! Ok a little strange but it helps.
Only 65 days to go..Destiny 1-16-2005!!

Rick

Oh yea, you can go to this site and see 360 degree tours of some ship areas, in case you didn't know.

I knew this one guy that before his first cruise went as far as to make a spread sheet that contained everything he was going to wear, all money required, what was going to be done at each port. On this spread sheet he had flight numbers, passport numbers and his cabin number.

He doesn't do that anymore.

That guy went a little over board. I would never do such a thing.

Take care,
Mike(Who has to go back to his spread sheet and then find out why my nose grew)

Watch more TV on the off chance you'll get to see a cruise commerical....

Call anyone you haven't already told you're going on a cruise and bore them to death with the details.

Memorize the brochure from your cruiseline.

Turn the heat up REAL HIGH in your house, put on your cruise clothes and have a deck partry.....

I have read the precruise docs so many times I called and had them send another copy.
Read the insurance fine print so well that I am thinking of opening up an insurance business.
Played my island music
Count and rehide my stash money so many times I cant remember where I hid it last.
But I WILL find it.

Now we're rolling!

Here's something else I do. about 6-7 weeks before the cruise I designate each week to a particular port and only that port.. I take the whole week to learn everything about the port and plan my excursions.

For example:
Seven weeks before: Miami
Six weeks before: Belize (cave tubing)
Five weeks before: Hondurus (snorkeling)
Four weeks before: Grand Cayman (more snorkeling)
Three weeks before: Cozumel (dolphin swin, sunset horseback ride)
Two weeks before: recap everything.
One week before: recap everything again.

We do the same as Rick. We have Carnival glasses from past cruises, and every night before the cruise, we try to mix a perfect special drink that we never make any other time. And, of course, Jimmy Buffett has to be playing in the background!

Well, I do much the same as everyone else, but since we booked our cruise in January, my cruise mates and I get together and chat at least 4-5 times a week. We talke about our cloths, often sending pictures back and forth. One friend & I were even shoping together online! To funny. We almost ended up with the same formal wear! Then some nights we go over tours we are going to do on the cruise and what we are going to do the 2 days we will be in NO before the cruise. WE go to the message boards do lots of reading. The planning is half the fun!!

Oh, I think I'll find ways to keep myself busy before I embark, but there'll be times that it'll be tough. I'll also be researching some of the ports of calls beforehand (I only intend to put in two dive excursions). I'll also put a hold on my mail and arrange for a house sitter. I'll also be making sure I have my medications and toiletries ready to go.

Since I'm bringing my own dive gear, I'll probably make sure that everything is in working order beforehand. I also intend to pack my digital camera, underwater housing, and extra batteries and memory cards, plus a roll film camera, its extra battery, and roll film.

I'm also going to have to visit a photocopy shop. I'll not only need a copy of my passport and records of my credit cards, but since I also visited Cuba several years ago, I'll need photocopies of the letter from the US State Department saying that I could go so I don't get in trouble with my own government.

I plan to rent my formalwear. Sometime before Christmas, I'll have to go get myself measured and send my dimensions in to Carnival while making arrangements for a rental.

As I've gotten older, I've gotten more particular about my music. I'll probably spend one evening loading a CD wallet with my favorite CDs to put in my carryon bag. I'll also pack appropriate guidebooks and a Spanish--English dictionary as well as a couple of other books for sea days and the long flights from Austin to Aruba and back.

Plus there'll be the rigamarole of actually packing and remembering where I put my summer clothes...I doubt that I'll have the time to get bored.

I try on all my formal wear and play the music with a drink or twe and try to figure out which dress to actually take with me...... I really do enjoy this - like you are getting dressed for formal night. The only thing is when formal night comes on the cruise we have usually been so busy during the day that I'm tired and really don't care...... Oh well I enjoy trying on the clothes anyway! Debbie

i too do all of the above.

also i tell myself each night at my '' 2nd '' job (for my spending money on the trip ), how much fun i am going to have buying and doing things with the extra cash. each day i check the carnival site to see if my cruise has come down on price, go too cruise addicts and see how many days i have left before i sail and look at my countdown clock on my screen to see the minutes and seconds go away.

doing all of this and still trying to decide on final tours is keeping me busy for the time being, but i dont think the day will ever get here before i board the ship.

then i will have to plan another trip to satisfy my need for more cruises. it is a '' vicious circle'' that i love ( grin ).
