Do You All Buy Cruise Insurance?

We finally just booked our first cruise to Canada in July. We are still deciding about the insurance. How many of you always get the insurance? Any of you never get the insurance?
My TA said that with the insurance they offer, you can cancel it up to the day before and get a cash refund. There are 6 in our party, so it's not just a few dollars involved here.
All of our other vacations have been to Florida, where we booked our own flights, hotels, etc,. and we never bought any kind of insurance.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Yes, we always buy the travel insurance. Last cruise we actually had to file a claim and it was nice having the extra insurance.

we too had the travel ins and in middle of filing a claim since we cruised during Hurrican Frances. They are refunding us part of the money when we had to buy a new flight. Try csa travel protection.

We always buy travel insurance also and because of Hurricane Frances we had to spend the night in a hotel before coming home and CSA reimbursed. Not only did they pay for the hotel but also for 2 meals and we had no receipt. We did not have to purchase new air fare because American Airlines honored our original purchase under the circumstances and gave us a new flight time.

We always buy insurance. Luckily we haven't had to use it, but its there if we need it.

it's better to have and not need, then need and not have..figure you can make up the extra cost in the casino on the ship or skip a few bingo games (smile)

We always buy it. You never know what can happen. Think of it as house or car insurance, better safe than sorry.

Look at it this way:

average cruise cost: $1000
average insurance cost: $100

If you cruise 10 times and never use it, it was a waste of money.

But hindsight is always 20/20

In all seriousness- I normally never buy any insurance for products I buy, but I always buy cruise insurance because 'you never know' what can happen between when you book and sail, so it's good piece of mind if nothing else.

I always purchase insurance because you never know what will happen. Some medical insurance does not apply while out of the country.

We never buy it, we have medical insurance if someone gets sick, and we drive to the port so flights are not a consideration, if you fly or do not have medical insurance than you should take it out IMO.

Re: Re: Do You All Buy Cruise Insurance?

There are numerous reasons to take out the insurance, one main one being, if you do get injured and need to be taken to a hospital by helicopter, our normal insurance does not cover that, cost could easily run up to thousands, there is also lost luggage and delayed flights, etc. IMHO, its a small price to pay to have these things covered, just too much to loose if things go wrong.

Always, especially trip cancellation/interuption and medical evacuation(this can cost thousands if you need to be taken off the ship)
