Default Carnival Destiny

Wondering if anyone out there has cruised on the Destiny leaving from San Juan with stops in St. Thomas, Barbados, Dominica and Aruba. My husband and I are thinking of this for our next cruise. Any help/advice would be appreciated. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We're sailing the Destiny in April. It is a very nice group of islands, huh?

Okay. When are you thinking about sailing? All our others have been out of Tampa or
Miami. I hope this sailing is as easy on and off. Where are you from? I'm from MA

We were thinking about going anytime from October 2005 to January 2006. We just came back from a cruise on the Fantasy on December 12-16. This was our first cruise. Both our kids are in college now, (son 2nd year, daughter 1st year, both at the University of Tampa) so we can travel as a couple again. I am also from MA, Framingham.

We are from Peabody, MA This is our last family spring cruise. Our twons are off to college next fall. Acceptances and tuition amounts are coming in as we speak so cruising for five is a past dream for us!

Right now we are inside Verandah but last year we got lucky and were upgraded to balcony rooms on the Victory. We are hardly in the rooms at all so either way it is okay.

we were on the 9/5 sailing on the Destiny. Had a great time and a great ship. Didnt go to Aruba due to the Hurricane,
Went to Antigua, st thomas, barbados, Dominica and tortola and 1 sea day. I guess weather in Sept cant be prevented.
Have fun, would love to sail on Destiny anytime.

We were in cabin 7316, which has a bigger balcony. We took our DS and DiL and just got them a oceanview guarantee hoping they would be upgraded since there aren't that many Oceanviews. They ended up with a 6B. The cruise was sold out. We spend a lot of time in our room so like to have the balcony. DS and DiL spent all their time by the pool.

Have either of you seen the Radisson Ambassador in Puerto Rico? WE are staying there the night before the cruise. We are used to Miami and knew where to stay. Any help with this? Also who was the cruise director on the DEstiny and how was he?
Thanks!

Cruise director is Jorge. He used to do stand up on the cruise circuit. He was pretty good. Can't tell you anything about the Radisson.

Hi. We are sailing July 17. We are in a cat 8C on the verandah as well. We are doing a one night pre cruise at the Sheraton Old San Juan. It use to be the Wyndham.

we did the cruise last May and had a great time. All the islands were great. We had a balcony and it was great to just sit out there and watch the sunset or sunrise. We stayed the night before and the night after in the Hilton Caribe, very nice hotel.

I work on the Destiny. It's the best run in the fleet. Aruba is worth the whole cruise. You will have fun on this ship.

Thanks for all the information. Sounds like we'll be going on the Destiny. My next question, especially to Turbo69 is, what is the best time of year to go? We just came back from the Fantasy's 4 night cruise to the Bahamas on Dec. 16, so we won't be planning the next trip for at least 6-8 months. We were actually thinking about either November 2005 or even pushing it until March 2006. What are your thoughts?

Any time of year is nice. If you want to party with college kids spring break is fun. I would cruise in the spring becasue the fall is the rainy season. Have fun.

Turbo69, what do you do on the Destiny? Also which side of the ship should we get a cabin on if we want to see the port and town when we dock?

Nolou, I'd rather not say since I give blunt advice on some things here. I can tell you that, I am in management though. We dock on both sides. Aruba is port, St Thomas is starboard and it's different in Barbados depending on the amount of ships in port that day. Personally I would rather not look at Dominica. ;~)

Turbo69, is the Destiny sold out for Jan 9 2005? We are sailing with three couples and a single on that date. We also sailed the Destiny Jan 2001.

Turbo69- question for you. Seems you have become our "source" :-)
We will be on the Destiny July 10th sailing, celebrating many events (sons birthday, 20th anniversary and moms retirement --whew!) Second sailing on her (last June 2001) and greatly looking forward to it, now that we are in cold Indiana weather. We have treated ourselves to a Cat 11 -being that we are celebrating so much, and parents first cruise.
My son who will just turn 14 when we sail and saw Carnival tour listed for Mt.Biking in Dominica. Can you tell me if it would be considered dangerous, or how strenuous? Thanks-- As a mom I am leaning towards the river tubing or a private tour with Reyno Tours per a recommendation. Any advice?
Would also be happy to hear any opinions of beaches in any of the ports or things considered a must see. I would assume they give you some time off once in awhile, although I know running a ship is a 24/7 job! Hope to "run into management" and connect a name and face on board--(confidential of course.)
Feel free to drop an email. --cyber regards.
