Not sure I understand why you think they would or should give you free money?

Seems kind of arrogant of you to think that just because you are on your honeymoon that everyone owes you something.....

Just my opinon

I don't think they were thinking along those lines, at least I hope not. What some folks do not know is that onboard credits are actually nothing more than giving you money. They are usually given by TA's or the cruiseline instead of a cash discount or something and not as any sort of gift.

Both of you sure seem like top notch asses to me.
That is not what I was saying, thinking or expecting!

Forget it.

BTY, I have been on 24 cruises, I know there are things like this out there, it is just a matter of finding the right person to talk to.

Clearly neither of you are the right people…

Boy do I feel sorry for your future wife if you call people you don't know such names. Makes me wonder what you call people you do know. All they were trying to do was help. Why don't you explain alittle better what you were saying then maybe people could give you better help.

Well, so much for trying to be nice and think the best of someone. <G> Doesn't really matter 'who' you know or call, they are not just going to give you somethng for nothing. If you know who these folks are then you don't need to ask me or anyone else I suppose.

Isn't it amazing that the person who bemoans all the asses around him rarely sees the one in the mirror?

Don't hit me! I wonder if SSpray was looking for coupon type freebies often found online?? One online agency was offering a coupon book worth $300. I'm always looking for coupons and goodies.

SSpray, what exactly are you looking for? Maybe we just didn't understand your question.

In reality there IS a way of getting free on-board credits (but your not going to like it). You would be part of a group sailing that is offering free on-board credits as a perk to the group. Sometimes Princess will offer a credit in thier individual bookings but in reality, YOU are paying for it. Sometimes a free credit for a missed port. Do they give credits just beacause your a good guy or special occasion? No.

I have more time in ship elevators then you do in cruise days. Its just not done.

Maybe if SSpray could put a thought together clearly then he (or she) would not have to resort to calling me an ass. That is totally uncalled for. The only thing the post said is how can I get FREE onboard ship credit. I am going on my honeymoon on the 27th. How else was I to take that?

Sorry to invade your little message board world with a question that ruffled a few of your feathers.

As for calling you an ass, I call it as I see it. And Chex888, think about it, you call me arrogant, to start with, and then (after many validated my post and were able to understand it) you tell me I can not put a thought together. Pure class.

As for the subject line, it got your attention…seems effective to me.

I thank those of you who offered tips and I greatly appreciate those of you who took your time to e-mail me with ‘the secret’.

As for the rest of you, I am truly amazed by the way your treat someone new to your little message board community.

A few bad apples sure can spoil a good thing.

DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there is a way to get $100 on ship credit. But you have to buy 100 shares of Carnival stock, currently selling fpr about $58 per share. So if you want to invest $5800 you can get $100 credit !!!!!!!!!!

SSpray, I was just wondering :is your honeymoon cruise really Jan.27th?-as in 2005 as I will be on the Valor in Grand Cayman; or is it in 2006?(-Jan27 is a Friday.)

Good luck with your wedding/honeymoon! Have a fun cruise! Should be a great ship!

SSpray,

Hubby & I have sailed on numerous cruises, our honeymoon and various anniversaries and the only perks we've gotten along with those lines are wine from our TA and the cruiseline, no onboard credits.

Hope you have a great time! And don't forget you can prearrange to have your cabin decorated with Honeymoon decorations or other gifts, at your own expense of course, but it makes the trip a little more special...

Enjoy!

Brenda in Canada,

Good spotting on the date. I did not mean 27th of 06.
I miss typed the date...I had a lot of other things going on at the time of the post.

As this point, I am glad I miss typed the date, because of all the "friends" I have made on this board.

JeanS,

Thanks for the tip!

The only time I have received a free onboard credit was in September, 2004 when our 7 day E. Caribbean cruise turned into a 5 day W. Caribbean cruise due to Hurricane Jeane. My boyfriend and I received a $100pp onboard credit, and a 30% refund, on that particular cruise. I was hoping to also get a percentage off a future cruise, but I was happy to get the onboard credit, and refund, since we live in Orlando and were affected by hurricanes left and right, it was nice to get something positive out of a disaster.

Well I had $75 onboard credit on the Inaugural Valor Voyage.. My TA offered us some and then because we were past cruisers we got an additional $25. So to all the SMART A**** on this board.. Yes it is possible.. Ask your travel agent and keep calling carnival who runs specials all the time.. The Carnival past cruise credits came 4 months after I booked.. I kept watching.. also my Cruise price went down twice and I saved a couple of hundred dollars on our cruise. My TA honored every price change that I found on my own by repeated calls to carnival and reentering my cruise info in their web site to see if my stateroom price had changed.. Your travel agent can't really watch for these price changes. that is up to you. Also every time my cruise price changed I also got money back on my Travel Insurance..
And I just plain asked to get an onboard credit from my TA..Now maybe for a honeymoon they would put a bottle of champagne etc.. or something like this. But every cruise I have been on I had received some sort of gift from my TA> So to all those NAYSAYERS.. I stick out my tongue!!

I'll tell you a secret, you paid for those credits in some manner. Either the TA charged enough that he was able to toss in a gift or the price of the cruise went down and instead of giving you the money back in cash they applied it to your onboard account. Happens all the time.

Yes there is, either be related to bob dickinson or mickey arison. No seriously, sometimes you can get on board credits for special promotions through travel agents or the cruise lines, but nowadays they are far and few in between. When lines are doing well, less incentives to prospective guests are needed to generate business.

Jim first of all everytime the price of the cruise went down I asked for it.. and got it. But the TA was a very close friend. She said they do offer a piece of their comission to new customers.. or someone who initiates a large group or for that matter someone that actually asks for it.

The Carnival deal was just that.. an added incentive.. that I know they offer now and then.. so we saved almost $300 between price changes, and on board credits.. and reduction in our insurance policy..fees..

Fine by me..

I think that most people who frequent this board are honest, hard working people who believe in fair play.
The original poster started off with a question of " how to get FREE on board credit ".
I think this is what turned people off--- it sort of had a picture of someone with their hand out looking for a free ride. Most folks are tired of the free ride and me-me- me- attitude.
Not saying that's what the original poster meant, but it sure could have been taken that way. Also, the poster said he / she had been on 24 cruises. If so, then they know about the on board credits and that they aren't just handed out for no reason.

Just my opinion, which , as usual isn't worth anything to anyone but me.
So, throw me to the sharks now.

This board is designed to answer questions people have about traveling/cruising. It's not uncommon in traveling to find ways to save, or uncommon on this board to ask other seasoned travelers their opinion on how to do so.

SSpray Best Wishes!
