Default whale watching

Is it true that I should have a good chance of seeing migrating whales on a Mexican Riviera cruise to Acapulco in early March (1-9th). Will they announce sightings over the PA system to alert us? Do whales swim close to the ships like dolphins? Thanks for any responces>
