This is our first time booking a specific cabin, after always booking gty rooms and I have to say, I'm thrilled!
We knew we wanted an 8C (extended balcony - aft) and after some terrific effort from my TA, we have an 8E for less than what I thought the 8C would be!
It seems strange to already have a cabin number - I'm used to that last minute "surprise", but I have my extended balcony and can't wait to "watch the wake" as the ocean goes by!
Now, if only I can settle down and WAIT until September!

Congratulations Dorothy,
I know how excited you must be ............... it's not that long until September! I've read a lot of good things about the Miracle, I'm sure you will love it! And of course, I'm looking forward to the "review".

We are fixing to take our first cruise. We booked an oceanview room on the Sensation on the Riviera deck. I believe to be somewhere around midship. Is this a good room?? I can see what is on top of us but not under us.
I've wondered the same thing, JA. Jim, Kuki? Any guesses as to a percentage of how many people book a specific room and how many book gtys?
For me, it's been a process of figuring out a little more on each cruise what I really *want* from a cruise.
We knew last cruise that we had been upgraded before we got to the pier, so I kind of missed that moment on our first cruise when the porter told us about our upgrade.
Guess I'll miss that moment this time, too, but I suspect the aft balcony will MORE than make up for any disappointment.

I have always booked a specific cabin. I decided I wanted the 'element of surprise' and possibly an upgrade for my last cruise. NEVER again. I found my cabin #, and I would have been stuck in some awful little inside cabin. Called the PVP, very disappointed, and three days before the cruise, she got me an assigned cabin w/two portholes. Gotta love those PVPs.
I think from reading these boards that most people just book and basically take what they are given, always with the thought in mind that they may be upgraded.
I always book a specific cabin. I keep up to date brochures from the major lines and when I call the T.A. I have my brochure open and ready. The last time I booked a guarantee was in ' 91 on Celebrity's " Horizon ". We ended up under the galley. It was a challenge, to say the least, to try to sleep. Since then, I know exactly where my bunk is before I leave home. But, to each his / her own.
