Can someone give me idea of things to do in san Juan, St Thomas, Aruba and Dominque- we will be on the destiny in May and looking for things to do other than the beach. Any comments on the ship?
Also If anyone can recommend a good hotel near the beach for a nights stay after the cruise so we don't get in all the hustle getting off the ship and to the airport.
You might be in a hussle getting off the ship but at least you wouldn't be stressed about getting on a flight. It is very nice to arrive at departure port a day early and leave a day after. Much more relaxing. Have Fun!
lots to do in San Juan - wander around Old San Juan - very interesting, historic, go out to Fort El Morro - again very interesting, this fort overlooks the harbor you can see all the ships coming and going, its also a favorite kite flying place. You can take a tour up into El Yunge(sp?) rainforest, beautiful. I don't know if they still offer tours of the Bacardi Factory or not..
I know you asked about things to do other than the beach, but St.Thomas/St.John have some of the most beautiful beaches with silky white sands and turquoise waters, they truly are breathtaking, don't miss out, spend a couple of hours. Megan's Bay Beach is just gorgeous, its very popular, its gets crowded, if you had to pick one beach to go to on St. Thomas that would be the one.- no snorkeling here. If you want to make a little effort and get over to St. John Island- again the beaches and scenery will amaze you.
The best way to see St.Thomas is to just hire a cab for a couple of hours and tour the island. St. Thomas is known for its shopping. There are two good shopping sites - Havensight Mall at the pier and downtown Charlotte-Amalie. You will find more local merchants downtown, whereas there are more of the chain stores at Havensight.
Take the Paradise Point Tramway for an amazing view of the harbor.
On St Thomas we enjoyed Coral World http://www.coralworldvi.com/index.html and right next to it is Coki beach a great place to scuba or snorkle. If you bring a roll in the water the fish (nice little ones) will come eat out of your hand in to waist deep water. JM
Rancho Del Campo horseback riding. Book on your own a d ride to the Natural Bridge. Great stuff.
Dominica: stuff this day: kayak/snorkel morning. lunch on ship or island. then private tour to Trafalgar Falls. Here's what you'll experieince:
kayak, snorkel, coral, fish, waterfall, hike, scary car ride thru the mountains, rain forest, hot springs, and meet the great people of Dominica. I mean, what more can you ask for in 8 hours?
