Default phone cards

can someone tell me if you take pre-paid phone cards if you still have to pay the ships phone rate of $9.95 per minute? also, how do phone cards work on the islands? (we are going to nassau, st. thomas, st. maarten). thanks.

I believe that you are still billed from the ship even with the phone card. Phone card should not be a problem from St. Thomas for sure as this is a US island. May just charge you more minutes from the other ports. I tried to use a prepaid calling card last year from Mexico and did have some trouble. Most of the ports sell phone cards in their stores for a pretty reasonable price that you can use there.

Hope that this helps somewhat. When are your sailing and on what ship?

You can only call out of the country you bought the card in. Virgin Islands are OK but we tried to call from St. Martin, Barbados and Martinque. No such luck. You still have to pay the 6.99 per minute on the ship regaurdless. Our 7 minute phone call from the ship cost 69.90. We called collect on shore because of the headache. I wish someone would have warned me before we left. Either way, now you know, you'll still have a blast. Chanin999 Carnival Legend 1/05 Carnival Valor January 8,2006
