Tax refund for a cruise?

Anybody else use a portion (or all) of their tax refund for a cruise?

I used my teaching money for the deposit and will pay off most of the cruise with our tax refund. Can't think of ANTHING I'd rather spend it on!

Next session of classes that start in the spring will pay off the balance. Nothing like having the major part of your vacation paid for 4 months in advance!

That would be awesome to get a large refund back to take a cruise. I agree with you on that one Dorothy !

We have kids, so naturally we use money for a vacation with them first, and if we have anything left over, we use that for us. Thankfully we live in New Orleans, so we don't have to pay for airfare, so a 7 day cruise for both of us only runs about 1000.00 during peak season. We usually get a nice refund (Thanks H&R Block!) which allows us to take a week with the kids, and then five days or so somewhere for just the wife and I.

oh yea, that is where all of mine is going, I need a phone, a vacumm and new flooring, but I am sick I tell ya, I am going on another cruise instead.. Hopefully I will lose the 10 pounds I gained on the last trip before I go next time lol

I did, I put the deposits on the Glory cruise with my refund.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm doing. Some of my tax refund has gone towards my surprise cruise with my husband. My husband thinks that any kind of money we receive from our tax return should be for paying ALL DEBTS. That would be great if we did receive enough money to cancel ALL OF OUR DEBTS. Instead, I prefer cruising...our debts will always be there: mortgage, car payments, car insurance, medical, dental, utilities. Need I go on?

Our tax refund always goes to pay for our vacations! Hubby and I try to take a cruise by ourselves, we spend a week with the kids at the beach, and do a week at our favorite campground with the kids as well. I guess when we stop getting a good return, our trips will reduce--heaven forbid!!

We are using our tax refund for "fun" money on our May cruise.

That is exactly what I am doing. Paid for it on last years tax refund and using spending money from this tax refund.

Paid it off just the other day with our Tax Refund!!!

It was our FIRST REFUND in 5 years.....All our deductions grew up and left home!!!!

use my mother's "rule of thumb"...1/3 of my tax refund goes to an "emergency rainy day savings fund", 1/3 goes to pay down bills, 1/3 goes to a cruise deposit

We will use what we get back to pay for the remaining balance on our very first cruise in December. I will then have from now till december to save for our spending money on the cruise. Not sure how much we will need but I figured if we take about $1000 we should be okay. What do you all think?

Venice - good rule. It's more or less what we do. Although this time the cruise fund only needed about 1/4 of the refund! My dh would put ALL of it in the rainy day fund, but I'm the optimist who makes sure we cruise with a bit of it.

I plan on using some of my refund for clothes, etc. for my 5-1-05 cruise. Luckily, I got 2 big bonus checks from my boss. So, I should be all set. Unfortunately, my bf has to pay this year. Oh well

You ain't gonna believe this pathetic story, but,
I spent my refund on my wifes surgery, and bought school shoes
for the young'un. (We had already made arrangements for the cruises.)

yep - that is what I save for all year - uncle sam holds on to it for me so I don't spend it
