We sail on our first cruise 5/15/05. Getting very excited. Can you give me some "must sees" or any other suggestions? What about shore excursions? Any help would be greatly appreciated

We went last May and it was wonderful! Excursions were good and weather was superb!

Food, service and spa was incredible!

Your May weather should be great. If you have never been to the Mexican Riviera, it's hard to know what to do.

I know the town of Puerto Vallarta (most call it "PV") very well from several long stays there, so when we were there on cruise day, we just took the local bus to our favorite part of town, called Olas Altas, and beached ourselves at the restaurant known as La Palapa (any taxi can take you to the doorstep). We lounged under a straw "palapa" umbrella and the extremely friendly waiters served us all afternoon. We then walked back along the beach, heading north to the main downtown boardwalk known as the Malecon and shopped around a bit, ate, and rested in the park. This is where the beautiful church is located. We eventually walked all the way back to the ship but don't recommend it at it is about 6 miles. We weren't really interested in excursions but both agreed that next time we would at least do city tours or snorkeling in Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.

A hint for your ports of call - internet cafes abound, and you can have a delicious coffee and 15 minutes or internet time for a lot less than the price on the ship. Also banks are easy to access for getting pesos and other money matters.

If you are the excursion types, I would recommend the canopy tour in PV during the day, and if time allows, Rhythm of the Night for the evening. I have seen Rhythm twice - loved it both times. On our cruise, fellow passengers were raving about the Canopy Tour. If convenience is important, book excursions thru Carnival. However nearly all excursions are available in town or thru the internet, at lower costs.

One recommendation I would make for the ship balcony rooms: if you have a balcony room (ours was aft 7th level) with a blow dryer in the vanity, be warned that the cord is tethered to the vanity drawer with a foot long cord so hair drying is difficult. If hairstyling/drying is important to you, bring one from home.

Have a great cruise. I'm green with envy. (ours was 1/30/05)

Jerry great question saves me having to ask. We are going April 17. Our anniversary is th 18th. But I don't want to book the supper club if it is one of the formal nights. For those of you who have been; my husband and I love to dance (country-western), is there any country music? What excatly is the rhythms of the night, we were thinking of the pirate. Thanks to all of you for you help. Jerry let me know how things were. We have a balcony, but it is a quart. so we don't know where.

Are there any great excursions for a large group? We are having our family reunion on this cruise (sailing 9/4/05), and I'd really like to spend time with family while doing something fun.

P.S. Is it true that if you book an excursion through Carnival that they'll have the ship wait for you if your tour is late?
