Default Motion Sickness

I am going on the Sensation with my hubby and both of our families in early Aug. I've heard wonderful things about the Sensation. The only complaint I'm always reading about is how the boat rocks. Now, I've been on cruises before and have had no problem, except for the very first cruise I went on - I had to wear the patch behind my ear.
My question is, can anyone recommend any over the counter motion sickness medications I might be able to purchase before the cruise as a just in case?

Commodore ships 2-94 & 2-95
Tropicale 2-96
Celebration 8-97
Conquest 11-04

jester

Goto the "practical advice" part of the forum and look under health at sea. There are some great posts in there about this topic

I've got a post around here somewhere........I talked to my pharmacist yesterday. Regular Dramamine is one type of chemical. Bonine and Less Drowsy Dramamine are another type (meclazine). You can get the chewable meclazine from your pharamacist (behind the counter) and can either swallow it whole or chew it. He said it is scored if you want to cut it in half. The patches seem to have a good many side effects from dry mouth to dialated pupils to fuzzy vision..........I love the Less Drowsy Dramamine, take half in the a.m., half in the p.m., start taking the day before we leave, continue taking one day after we get back on land..............has worked for me on 7 cruises.

A month or so ago a former Sensation employee posted that the ship's stabilizers weren't working properly and that's why there's so much rocking. He sounded like it was hush-hush, although he was apparently brave enough to say it in a public setting like this. My family's on this ship in April, and I'm glad I won't be on it this time around if this is still the case. Interesting. I don't know what it takes to fix such a problem, but I would hope it's taken care of soon.

The non-drowsy drammine has always worked for us. Pick some up at Walmart or your local drug store before you leave. No worries mate !

Happy sailing;

The bracelets have worked miracles for my family. I don't really understand them, but I don't care as long as I'm not sick!

Jester,

We were on Sensation last August, and between the first and second hurricane which were about a week and a half apart.

I have to say that we had smooth sailing except for the first two hours after leaving Mexico.

You could still have a smooth trip. One can hope anyway...

We were on the Sensation in September. The Pursers Desk has free meclazine.
You can also get it free at the infirmary. I have problems with sea sickness at times
and have always used the free ship meds.
Happy Sailing.............

Just got back from crusing on the Sensation....I was wonderful except for the rocking which was constant throughout the cruise and was tolerable(for me) but my girlfriend did get seasick,oh and the last night back into New Orleans was the worst.....i had to brace myself because i thought i was gonna roll outta bed.

Hey Pat and Tricia,

I'm ready to leave on the Sensation this Thursday!!! I wish it was our cruise on the Conquest all over again so we can go back to Sunset Beach. I plan to bring something for seasickness just in case. The Conquest didn't bother us in November, but this ship sounds more rocky. I'll let you know more about the Sensation when I get back. Hope to talk to ya'll soon.

Eileen
