Default Room assignments

We booked our cruise (Conquest) for Oct 05 in Oct 04 under a super saver program. We booked directly through Carnival. We booked 4 rooms and had to pay $529 per person (of course less for the 3rd person in the room). We do not get our room assignments until close to cruise time. The understanding was that we could get upgrades but not guaranteed of course. Are we going to get the crummy rooms (like next to elevators or across from laundry rooms) and did I make a big mistake not getting room assigned early by paying a little more? Thanks

It sounds like you booked a guaranty. That is you booked a particular category and that is the minimum category that you are guaranteed. There is a possibility of an upgrade but it does not happen on every reservation and just because one cabin is upgraded does not mean that all would be upgraded. You would have to look on your reservation what category you have booked.

Good explanation, BooBoo.

Now, about the 'crummy cabins'......Not so. On one cruise, I had an inside cabin that backed up to an elevator. Was SO afraid I'd hear elevator cables, clanging, etc. all night long.....never heard the slightest sound. Only once did I hear passengers getting off, talking loud.

I've also had an OV cabin 3 doors down from an elevator. Again, no problem. And the best thing - It surely is nice to walk out of your cabin and the elevator's right there!

Laundry rooms - I've been 1 door down from the laundry room. Didn't bother me at all. People aren't making noise, it's not like there's a party going on in there! - and the washers/dryers can't be heard at all if you're cabin door is closed.

About booking guarantee vs. assigned cabins. I have always booked an assigned cabin except ONCE......never again. I'll always choose my own cabin from now on.

Ya know what some considers crummy are exactly what some people want. I have gone on cruises where people were mad they didn't get the room right near the elevator like they wanted!

Both times on Carnival I've booked a gty. and both times received an upgrade (once from oceanview to a balcony). We were satisfied with our cabins and unless you have a specific reason for booking an assigned cabin, gty. is a good way to go. It's cheaper AND you stand a chance of getting an upgrade.

This time, however, we booked an assigned cabin because we had something in mind - an extended balcony on the stern of the ship.

I would go back to a gty, though, especially when money is a factor.

We book a Gty cabin on the Miracle last year, and we had a great room. It was a great deal because we paid less for the room, and got a great cabin. We weren't told what the cabin # was until we got to the pier, though I figured it out when we got the tickets and discovered the "trick" in finding the room #.

Gina,

I have booked a guarantee. I don't think that mine has it on there since I booked the cruise last minute. It has my booking number then TBA59 then SE200503030004 I know the SE is for Sensation and the 2005 03 03 is the date but don't know what the 0004 or the 59 behind the TBA means. Let me know if you see it or if mine is just what it is To Be announced.

Amazed,

If you are referring to me, my post DOES NOT contain my booking number at all. I wasn't that stupid. If you re read it , it states ("it contains my booking number and then ".) I never said the booking number.

I went back and checked some of my tickets, travel info from cruises when we had guaranty rooms. There was no correlation between the numbers, booking, ticket, etc. and the room we ended up with. Perhaps the 0004 is the number of guests in the room??? don't know.

Joannfla:

the trick is
complete your fun pass
then order a gift sent to your cabin
if it's been assigned the cabin number will appear in the order form

Hi everyone..I went on Carnival.com and tried to buy a gift and someone said if I bought a gift I would be able to get my room number, well it asks you for your booking number and stateroom number before allowing you to even buy the gift! I dont have the room number so I cannot buy the gift!! I am confused.

cruisenurse,

That does not work at all. I have tried it again today and nothing. It still requires a booking number. Yes I have done the fun pass. Did it right after I booked. I leave Thursday morning so if that really worked it would show. Please enlighten us on how exactly you got yours to work.

Did you call Carnival and ask them if a room had been assigned? Tell them you want to order something (it might be too late now since you're leaving 3/3). Maybe you can get something out of them

Cruisenurse,

I hope you are right. I found what you was talking about. I went to the funpass section and then accessed the gifts section from there. I went to order and it shows my booking number and for stateroom it showed "guar". I just can't believe it's less that 24 hrs I will board but no room assignment. Won't the guys at the pier that take the luggage have to retag mine? They should know by then right?
