Default port caneveral-fly to orlando or melbourne?

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in this area. I'm sailing on the Glory 7/02-7/09 out of Port Canaveral and before I book my flight I'd like to know if it's more convenient to fly to Orlando or Melbourne Intl. I heard that the Orlando airport is 45 miles away and Melborne is only 25 miles from Port Canaveral, but when speaking to Carnival they told me it's better to fly to Orlando and get a ride to the port from there. I'm confused and was hoping someone could clear this up for me.

Thanks

I grew up on Merritt Island/Cocoa Beach and I always fly into Orlando when visiting, mainly because it is usually less expensive. Melbourne is closer and is a smaller airport but I have never flown in there. Check the prices. Orlando to Port Canaveral is a straight shot on the B-Line, 45 minutes usually.

I found round trip to Fort Lauderdale, nonstop from Dayton Ohio for 216.90r/t. I always check with the online travel services to find out which airlines fly where I'm going then go directly to their website to book, I have always saved. I quess alot has to do with where you are flying from.

Sharon,
Unless you're just sharing your good fortune in finding a great fare, Fort Lauderdale is too far to fly into when taking a cruise from Port Canaveral.

Does anyone know the price for a shuttle from MCO to Port Canaveral?

Santy411: Try Art's Shuttle or Mears Transporation. The cruise line also offers shuttle services. I used Legacy Limo but used them for a pre and post cruise stay in addition to the transporation to and from the pier so I'm sure the price is paid is much different (not to mention that it was two years ago). Hope this helps.

Carnival's shuttle and The Cocoa Beach Shuttle run about $25/pp each way. Depending on how many people in your party, you might want to think about renting a car from Budget. We used CB Shuttle in 2003 but rented a car last year. Their return location in across the street from the port and they have a courtesy shuttle and were very friendly.

We used Art's shuttle last August. I think it was $75 from MCO to the Port for my family of four. They were very reliable and I would highly recommend them.

We just cruised last week, and flew into MCO on Friday night, got a shuttle from the airport to a local hotel, took the shuttle back to MCO on Sat morning, then took a Mears Shuttle over to the Cape. The total cost for the shuttle one way is $25, or round-trip is $50.

I checked the Mears website and while there are numbers to call for transposrtation to Disney and Holland America Ports, there is no number for Carnival. If anyone has that # to reserve a shuttle for Port Canaveral I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I live in Orlando..... if it was me I would fly into MCO (Orlando) for sure. It will also insure you will get your fly here and return. They are always closing the Melbourne airport for something here and there because it's too small..... so weather really effects the place.
