Default carry off luggage pros and cons

Do I want to carry the luggage off myself, or just wait until my floor is called, pros and cons, with waiting, more traffic , if I wait, or less, bacause the inpatient people are gone. which color do they call first? top to bottom or catagory,
thanks Gail

No special order as to which "color" gets called first. Advantages to "self-debark"...you get off earlier. You "keep control" of your luggage [don't have to put in in hallway the night before debarkarion]. Disadvantages....a lot of people want to get off the same time as you. Also, elevators may be crowded/unavailable. In that case, you have to carry your bags up/down stairs.

We carry off my dh's suit bag and my evening wear bag. Only because we can't lock them. I would hate to drag luggage off the ship. You may have to go down stairs or the elevator.

Unless you have a really early flight and need to get off the ship quickly, I would advise against self-assist debarkation. The corridors and elevators are jammed full. Actually, on my last cruise, the elevators at one point were not working, because there were so many people in the hallways, the passengers couldn't get off the elevators! Yikes!

If you can, go up to the lido, have some breakfast or something, and just chill until the ship is near to being empty. So much less stress for you. Corridors and elevators will be empty, and you will pass through customs in no time.

Have a great time on your upcoming cruise Gail!

Here is the way it went on the Ecstasy May 2-7, 2005....
Self assist started ~720am, last call for early flights @ 845, Veranda deck orange @ 910am, Rivera brown @ 920am, Main deck pink @ 945am, Empress yellow @ 950am, Main red at 1010am, Purple at 1015am......

I've tried the self-assist twice. I can't say that it's a great way to end a great vacation. Crowded hallways, people hurrying and complaining... I'll just take an extra book... find a comfy spot and wait until my color is called.

We rolled our own luggage off of the Conquest & it was a PAIN..... We had to many bags & they kept tipping over, glad I had a strong heart....... We will let them take the luggage next time, have a great breakfast & not worry about the colors since we will already be out of the cabin with our carry bag..... As our daughter will be picking us up at the terminal she can come in a little later than normal......

I believe the color coding is based on the time of your flight out. Be courteous and wait your turn if you have a later flight. The people trying catch early flights will appreciate it.

The only way I would self debark is if I had very little luggage, ie one small suitcase, which I've done on a short cruise.

When we disembarked the Fantasy, the colors were called by the higher cabin category. We had been upgraded to a Penthouse suite and our color was called early but we waited about 35 minutes later to get off since we were still eating breakfast. Even then it only took us about 20 minutes to get off the ship from the time we left the dining room until we got to our car. I don't think I would have carried our bags myself even though we only had 1 suitcase and 1 garment bag. Why rush!!!

We did the self assist off a 5 night cruise and that was great as we had and others too a lot less luggage than the 7 night cruises. Also in Galveston the shuttle to the parking can get to be an hour long line so with self assist we hopped on board and were at our car and on our way home way before anyone else... Galveston is not set up well so traffic is a problem when waiting to get off ship.. Debbie
