Im just wondering if Im already booked on a certain shore excursion with Carnival but wanted to change my mind, (say switch the Grand tour for the Ariel tram in Panama) would they let me do it and pay or refund the difference? Also do they give any more details on the ship regarding the shore trips then what is posted on the web site?
There will be a Shore Excursion presentation on board (at least there was when I sailed); you might get a few more details and there will be a slide show. There is also a Shore Excursion desk where you can ask questions.
As far as cancelling an excursion, this is from Carnival's website (shore excursions FAQ's)-looks like you have until 5 days prior to sailing to make any changes without penalty. Lots to read, but good information.
How do I make changes to shore excursion orders after the pre-sailing cut-off date?
Unfortunately, we no longer have access to any shore excursion orders after the cut-off date. Keep in mind that you will have until 5 days prior to sailing, unless otherwise noted in the excursion description, to make new shore excursion bookings, cancel all or part of existing shore excursion orders or change the designated contact person. In order to make any change to your shore excursion orders after the cut-off date, you will need to see the Shore Excursion Manager once you are onboard the ship. In the event of a cruise booking cancellation within the cut-off window, a full refund will automatically be posted to the credit card used to pay for the order
Can I cancel an online shore excursion order?
You may cancel all or part of a shore excursion order online at any time prior to the cut-off date. Simply click “modify my shore excursion orders” at the bottom of the itinerary box on the My Reservation page. You will be automatically issued a full refund to the credit card that was used to pay for the shore excursion order. Please allow 3-5 business days for the credit to post to your account. No changes can be made within the cut-off window. If you need to make changes after the cut-off date, you must wait until sailing and see the Shore Excursion Manager onboard. In the event of a cruise booking cancellation within the cut-off window, a full refund will be automatically posted to the credit card used to pay for the order.
If the designated contact person on a shore excursion order cancels their cruise booking and the remaining guests who are sailing would like to retain the shore excursion order, a new contact person needs to be assigned. If a designated contact person cancels and does not reassign the responsibility, the associated shore excursion orders will be automatically canceled and payment will be refunded.
Once you are onboard the ship, your cancellations are subject to a 25% cancellation charge. However, all shore excursion orders are non-refundable within 24 hours of arrival in port. A refund, less any applicable cancellation charges, will be applied to the designated contact person’s sail and sign account. Carnival will only offer shipboard credit for shore excursion order refunds. Please note; any credit not utilized by the end of your cruise will be refunded via check to the order’s designated contact person on the morning of debarkation
Thanks Cali, I was just wondering if I could swap one shore excurision for another after the ship departs that way I could ask questions and see the slide show. Im going to be doing shore excursions in all my ports for sure!
Sounds like you would be subject to the 25% penalty, unless you are within 24 hours of the port, then no refund. My parents recently sailed on Princess and, while you could book excursions in advance, the charges were put on your shipboard account and you could cancel, without penalty, on the ship (within a certain number of hours from port - 1 or 2 days). I wish Carnival would do this. Oh well.
Got a question--what if you book a shore excursion in Grand Cayman, then lets say the seas are too choppy or for some other reason the ship can't dock or tender?? what happens--since you'd be past the cutt off and out of the 24 hr window do you just loose your money?? or would Carnival issue credit it a situation like that?????
Brutis......was the original shore excursion booked on line? If not, the rules may have changed.
karessamom....if Carnival has to cancel the excursion, you will get a refund.......this is from Carnival's website (shore excursions FAQs):
What is the cancellation and refund policy in the event of bad weather or unexpected circumstances?
Certain excursions have minimum guest participation requirements and shore excursions may be cancelled or modified depending on the number of guests participating. In the event of cancellation or modification of an excursion, best efforts will be made to provide advance notice. Shore excursions may be cancelled by Carnival or the Tour Operator due to inclement weather conditions, or any other reason whatsoever. Full refunds will be made to guests who purchased cancelled excursions. If the shore excursions are cancelled prior to the sailing, you will receive a refund directly to the credit card used to pay for the shore excursion order. If the shore excursions are cancelled while onboard, the amount of the refund will be credited to your shipboard account
