Default Belize Zoo

Hi, I am going on Carnival Glory in September. Traveling with a lady that is developmentally disabled. I would like to take her to the Zoo. Carnival offers a tour of the city and Zoo for $55 each person. I do not think the city tour would interest her as she would not understand it. She does love animals and calls them "Gods nanimals" I thought of just taking her to the Zoo by taxi. Has anyone done this? How safe is it?

It is safe Laura. The zoo from what I understand is a bit more primative than what we normally think of when we picture a zoo but it is a third world country. If that is what she like then go for it.

Hi Jim, thank you for your response. I think that is what we will do. I really would like to do cave tubing but I think she would be afraid of the deep water. I do plan to bring her life jacket from out boat but she does not understand that it will keep her above the water. Best to stick to things where she will feel secure.

We'll talk. <G> She might like the cave tubing as the water is usually pretty shallow plus she would have a lifejacket and of course you will let her have one of the headlamps.

There is also a Baboon Sanctuary you might want to check out.

We really enjoyed the baboon sanctuary - even though they are not actually baboons but howler monkeys. We got to see several monkey families up close - and a few wee babies. The talk was informative as well. The trip itself was great - we got to see alot of the country and the way they live. Very enlightening. We walked past a school and all the children game out to wave at us - of course there was a jar for donations - but they were all so cute in their school uniforms so we could not resist. Enjoy your cruise whatever you decide to do. TTFN Jennifer

Thanks everyone for helping out Laura ... I suggested she also post on the Carnival board.

This group is so amazing. All these people making suggestions to help us out. I printed out the description of the cave tubing adventure and showed my gentleman friend. He too is responsible for Patty's care. He will not be with us on the cruise but is interested in what we are doing. Amazingly he was more concerned about the 45 minute hike and its effect on me!!! I could use some extra walking as my job is so sedentary. I had pretty much settled on the Zoo trip because I thought the water might frighten Patty. He thought the idea was great for her. So we will be doing the cave tube adventure. Jim had suggested that the water is fairly shallow. I of course asked her how she felt about it and she said "will you hold on to me?" I told her I woul be right near her. she said ok. So tubing it is!!! thank you all sooooooo much for your help. Now, where the heck did I put those walking shoes?

Laura and Patty.
