Default additional room key

Due to the 25 yr old rule in the cabins, my husband and I are listed on seperate cabins with our kids (he in the room with one teen, me on the other room with a teen & younger kid). We were planning on switching though....has anyone been able to ask for and receive addtional room keys? we will actually need them for 3 cabins since another couple has this same issue. Since the room key is your sign & sail card & boarding pass all in one, an additional key with no purchasing power is all we are after. Hopefully someone here has done this or knows? thanks.

We just got off of a Carnival Cruise with a bunch of Teenagers that roomed together. You take one child and an adult to the pursers desk and tell them you want to switch keys. A couple other people got an additional key for their child's room because they thought the child would lose it. So what ever you want to do. If you keep your names on your key and just switch it you will not be able to get money in the Casino or Alcohol on board depending on the ages of the kids. Then when you leave to go out at a port your picture will not match your card!!

Have a great time

We did the same - swapped rooms. I went to the pursers desk and asked for an extra key as my DH and boys were off on an early shore tour and I wanted to be able to access both rooms. They made an extra key which said KEY ONLY on it.
No problems

We ran into this too when we tried to book our kids on a lower level so we could have a balcony room. Carnival told us that what we did after we booked the rooms was our business but the S&S card is your room key, Ship ID and card to use to purchase stuff, including alcohol. If we switched keys around so that kids were in one room and we were in another, our IDs wouldn't match up and we couldn't order a drink on the kids card...................We moved down several levels and booked them across the room from us. I glad people have tried it, but we decided it wouldn't work for us. Give us a post after your cruise and let us know how it worked...........

Hi Geralyn,

No there was no charge for the key. I just explained to them that I wanted to access the other room while they were on shore. I think as a family that is split up in multiple rooms they understand that an extra key may be needed. ( we - hubby & I - stayed in the room that was in my husbands name, therefore I needed the key to that room so I could access my things)- I assume you will be doing the same. Keeping my room key for the room I was registered in gave me access to the room that our boys were in. Found this to be better than trying to change everyones sail and sign cards.

Have a wonderful cruise! ! !

docliz - yes this is exactly what we wanted to do...me & hub in one room..access to the other. and to complicate things even further...my nephew & my son are going to switch too...nephew is listed on a room 2 floors down with other relatives. But he 7 my one teen are really close. so he is moving up with my one teen (on the room Im supposed to be in) and my other teen is moving down to the nephews room. If you're still with me .....this is like musical cabins. But what we thought was this...we will all "officially" stay on our assigned cabins numbers for our financial sign & sail accounts/cards....but just all get extra keys and swap those. I hope this works out!! if not..oh well...pass the fru fru drinks!

You really can switch. We had three rooms one without my name or my husbands name on it. Believe me my sons charges in that room followed us!!! They do it by family name and match it with your charge. You write down the names of the people that are assigned to your account. My nephew who came with us with a different last name followed our charge too!!

Have a blast
