Silly question. What is the difference between category 8A and 8E? My parents just left on the Legend and they called from the ship saying they were upgraded from 8A to 8E. Not sure what the difference is . They got room 8120. I am sure I will hear about when they get back but I was curious if anyone could tell me if that was a good upgrade and what the difference was
The type of cabin and where it is on the ship. For instance 8 on the Pride is a balcony cabin. Where it is located indicates the letter range. Usally the higher the cabin the higher the rating. Also forward, midship or aft effect the rating with midship usually being more preferable. ( Although the aft balcony's are becoming quite sought after.

According to my Carnival brochure, 8A balcony cabins are on Main , Deck 4 and 8120 is located on Panorama, Deck 8, four decks high and also according to the brochure cabin 8120 is an 8F balcony cabin, forward port side.
