My husband and I leave on the Carnival Ecstasy this Thursday to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary (my first cruise).
We have been planning and counting down the days!
However, now that I've read so many, many horrible reviews - I'm wondering if we've made a mistake. The majority say the crew is mean, the food is bad, the ship is dirty ---- can anyone tell me some good stories about the Ecstasy so we can look forward to our trip.
We're staying in a stateroom and this was meant to be a nice splurge for us.
there is an old old saying, believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear. i have been on 3 carnival cruises and never had a problem. the food was fine, staff friendly, and the entertainment is probably the best on the 7 seas. we were gonna book anotther cruise on carnival and decided against it, not because of the ships figured we would try snother line. after researching other lines decided on costa cruise lines. the ship is owned by carnival the difference is that it is italian themed something different, we are celebrating our 2oth anniversary and like you decided to splurge, booked a suite with 24hr butler service, full menu served in our room. the wife and i read some bad reviews, and some good reviews more good then bad, we are not gonna let the negative get in the way, we will decide for ourselves. then we will post our review on the costa site, and will be very honest. i think that you should do the same. have a good time and make the best of it
Everybody is different, not everybody likes the same things, and everybody has different expectations. Go on the cruise with an open mind, and know that "your vacation is what you make of it" and "any day on a cruise ship is better then a day at work". And one more thing.... I think that food for some reason always tastes better when someone else makes it. So I never have never had a problem with the food onboard. Maybe sometimes the french toast wasn't done all the way, but I didn't complain I guess I"m just understanding that they are working their butts off to please us and get food in our stomachs. Can't complain about their hard work. And they're making a crap load of french toast, and it has to be done as quickly as possible. But, oh big deal so the french toast isn't done all the way, eat it and be happy you have food in front of you, eh? . Now I am one of many who LOVE the food on Carnival ships.
Also, I've been on 7 cruises and out of the 7 cruises I think I've only experienced one cruise with unpleasant crew. It wasn't that they were "mean" it was just that the didn't talk. They didn't open up to even show that they were nice friendly people. And that cruise was my one and only cruise on a different cruise line... Royal Caribbean. The other 6 cruises have been on Carnival. And the crew have been absolutely wonderful, friendly, easy to talk to and seem always happy, and very willing to help you or get you what you need/want.
Now I can't say much about the cleanliness of that ship, as it has been several years since I've been on that ship. But, when I was on the Ecstasy it was a clean ship. I was just on the Sensation in November.... (Ecstasy's sister ship) and though the Ecstasy is 2 years older then the Sensation... I know how well Carnival keeps their ships cleaned up. You see crew members constantly cleaning the ship... indoors and out on deck. Its an older ship so yeah there is going to be some wear on her. But don't let that disappoint you or ruin your trip.... your fun! I've never seen a dirty Carnival ship. maybe 1 or 2 dirty toilets in the public restrooms. But there are more then just the one public toilet you could always use. There's usally at least 2 or 3 toilets in a public restroom. Your cabin is always clean, unless of course you trash it .
So I say don't worry about what others are saying about their cruise. You just go and experience YOUR cruise... YOUR vacation... not theirs. :o)

We were on the Ecstasy in November. The ship and food were great, the crew went out of their way to help my seasick wife, even to the point of telling me to go enjoy my cruise and that they would look after her. No complaints here !
We are going on the ecstasy in august and I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of their cruise to help me know what it looks like other then what the brochures and websites say. Any helpful hints that anyone has for this confused first time cruiser would be wonderful.
If you take the right attitude with you you'll have a ball. You tend to get what you give when it comes to people. You said you were in a stateroom, I thought they were all staterooms, just inside, outside, balcony, suite...

I was on the Ecstasy in Feb. and posted a review on here if you go back into archives.
I didn't experience a mean crew or anything like that, and for a 10 year old ship I was quite pleased with it's condition.
My family and I were on the INFAMOUS Carnival Ectasy "CRUISE TO NOWHERE" that left Galveston on March 7. Because of engine problems we never left the ship we spent 5 days on board. So we had plenty of time to check things out. It was our first cruise and we had a BLAST!!!!!! The food was great. They are continously cleaning all the time. All the staff was very friendly. I did not particularly care for the show on Tuesday night but that was just a personal prefrence. (The rest of my family liked it!) The 2 comedians on the boat were the best. I have never laughed so hard in all my life. We had so much fun that the minute we got home we started planning our next cruise. Even though the Ectasy had engine problems when we went, I would not hesitate a second to go back on the same ship. Hope this helps.
I just got back from cruising on the Ecstasy ending 3/31. We did not experience any problems with the motor, made it to all ports of call. The boat was clean, stateroom clean and comfortable. The food was fine. I would not hesitate to go on this ship again. Our cabin was in the front of the ship and we did feel alot of movement but with a little Bonine, we did not let that deter us.
Wanted to let everyone know we got back from our trip on the Ecstasy yesterday - and we had a wonderful time. Thank you to all that replied to my message with words of encouragement and wisdom (so much is your own attitude).
That being said - I'd like to give an overview of what was good vs. room for improvement.
We had the Penthouse Suite (huge!) and very clean. Dated in it's decor - but that added to it's charm. (I have to state that this was a surprise to me from my husband). We were personally escorted thru the lines for photos and embarkation -- so it felt very special!
I would rate the dinner on two of the evenings as EXCELLENT and two as Good.
I had been concerned about cleanliness --- but people were cleaning continually and I had nothing but admiration for the shape they kept the ship in.
We arrived at our port of call - Cozumel - right on time and I found the shops friendly, clean and nice (we just stayed in the area right off the ship).
Room Service was fast! I don't think we ever waited more than 15 minutes and not once was our order wrong.
Towels and fresh linens were plentiful.
We loved the photo opportunities and results. (yes, a little pricey at $20 per 8x10 - but worth it to us)
Room for Improvement --
The first night half our luggage did not arrive until after 8:00 so we were not able to change for dinner --- however, they do warn you of this --- so no 'points' off.
My husband ordered chilled champagne to be waiting in our room - instead we received a note stating that due to Texas liquor laws it would not arrive until the next day. Had this info been provided on the web site - we would have skipped it. How is a champagne bottle on the 2nd day a "Bon Voyage" bottle?!
Two days we had no COLD water for our shower --- yes, I mean no Cold. It was scalding hot - we had inventive showers involving melted ice warmed quickly with the shower water. We did report it the first day and they tried to fix it - but it didn't work. We could have used the Spa showers had we chosen.
The one sunny day (and no I won't count the weather against them) all the deck chairs quickly filled up and no one assisted with finding more chaises for those looking. Since we had a private deck this did not impact us --- but would have otherwise.
The Country Show we did not care for and the bars were smoky --- so this is a personal preference thing. We did truly enjoy the Guest Talent Show - and the Captain's Cocktail Party.
You get a huge mix of people - we like to dress up and on our formal night - there were those that wore cut off sleeves with exposed tatoos and shorts. More a disappointment in the guests than Carnival - but it would be nice if there was more enforcement.
Overall - we will go on another cruise. I think next time we might look for one with a theme so there might be more activities that appeal to us since we don't gamble or smoke - that limited some of the activities - but with our nice room and each other --- not all bad.
Again - thank you to all that responded to my posting.
For those that will be sailing Ecstasy in the future --- have a great time.
