Homeland security?

my 20 year old son has his birth certificate...his drivers license expires this thursday. so he went and renewed it. but all he got was the paper one at this point...it will take 2 weeks to get the photo one in the mail! he does have his expired photo drivers license (he ust said he lost it). so with birth cert, paper DL and old DL w/photo...do you think they will let him on the ship?

I would call Carnival and ask them. Get the name of the person you speak to as sometimes when you call Customer Service they will tell you one thing and when you get to the port its something else. Another option would be to get an expedited passport. You have to go and stand in line for them (I live in Southern NH and the closet one to me is Boston) but you can get them expediated for an extra fee.

The regional passport offices are in Boston, Chicago, Connecticutt, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington DC. You have to call ahead for an appointment. They serve people traveling within two weeks. If one of these is near you I think its your best bet.

Yes, all he needs is a BC and a photo ID and the photo ID need not be a valid DL. It still has his photo and name. As others have pointed out, you will be doing yourself and him a favor to get your passport as soon as you return for future travel.

oh jim, once again your knowledge and advice have calmed my worst fears! yes we are all getting our passports renewed when we return (we let them expire last year)...it seems we'll need them in the future anyway. thanks again everyone!
