We're on the Victory out of Miami in April. We travel with one carry-on case each.
We'll be taking a hotel shuttle to the port. Can we carry lur own bag onboard? If so, is there a special place we have to go at the terminal?
Anything you carry onboard has to be small enough to fit through the x-ray machine. It's very similar to the ones at the gate at the airport. If it doesn't fit through there, you will have to check it.
When they say "carry-on" they mean those small suitcases that can fit thru the scanners (just like the ones at the airport), I think they need to measure no more than 18" wide. If it doesn't fit thru the scanner, they will ask you to leave the line and exit the building to check your luggage. One couple in front of us on our last cruise tried to jam their huge carry-on luggage thru the scanner and were turned away. They were very upset when they were told to check their luggage with the porters and proceeded to open their luggage and remove items that they wanted to bring on board with them immediately and placed them in plastic bags that another passenger gave them.
How in the world do you do that???? Between the two of us, we have 3 good size suit cases, 2 carry-ons and 3 empty duffle bags(to bring MORE stuff home). I don't even think my shoes would all fit in a carry-on!! My goodness, you both deserve a medal!

I was thinking the same thing about the shoes! That, plus my hairdryer, curling irons, makeup, and toiletries alone take fill up a carryon. Besides, I always take two suitcases so I can cross-pack mine and my husband's clothes. That way if one case gets lost or delayed, we both still have something to wear.

You pack like I do. If I think I might wear it, I do NOT take it. I mix and match everything, if something does not match with at least 2 other pieces, it stays home.

Our incentive for packing light is skipping baggage claim at the airport. We do take one empty duffle for shopping, just in case. Our bags are 9x14x22. We get everything in there, several outfits, even formal attire and shoes. I don't really know how.
Thanks again for the great info !! I think we'll try it.
HAPPY CRUISING TO ONE AND ALL !
