Default Group Discounts

Does anyone know at what number of people/cabin Carnival offers any group discount? We are cruising April 2006 with between 20 - 30 people. Our travel agent at initial meeting said that Carnival gave good group discounts. But now has indicated there isn't really a group discount or any bonus for booking as a group.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks.

We have tried to do groups and we were told it depends more on how many cabins you book rather than the # of people. We were told for every 8 cabins we can get 1person free (inside cabin rate) and divide the savings among everyone. I would check with a few TAs to see who will work with you the most.

For every 8 cabins, you get a cabin free on Carnival.

If your TA is telling you there is no group discount on Carnival, check with another TA because there is....Dorothy is correct, for every 8 cabins booked (2 people per room), you get one free...we have been told that we could either use the free cabin for ourselves as cruise coordinators or split the savings amongst all participants, we chose to share the savings with our family and friends. The only drawback is, if you book a group and people cancel at the 11th hour leaving you with 7 or less staterooms, I believe the costs revert back to non-group rates. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The norm on Carnival is one free berth for every 15 berths paid based on double occupancy, and that is cruise only price, and excludes the port and tax charges. NOT one free cabin!

Aside from the value of the free berth, most groups also get a certain number of "points" to spend on amenities. Every sailing has a different number of points given, and a varying list of amenities to choose from.

The amenities list to choose from can vary from shipboard credits, to champagne and chocolates in each cabin, to drink coupons, to further price reductions, to photo credits, etc.

If your group booked 15 double occupancy cabins you would get the equivalent value to a free cabin... plus the amenities you choose.

I recommend doing some research, with this bit of limited information, and finding a good TA with group experience, and negotiate your best deal.

There are instances where Carnival (or any cruise line) will limit the amount of group space on a particular sailing. But if your sail dates are flexible, you should be able to find a sailing that is still allowing group bookings.

Remember that Easter falls on April 16th in 2006 so it may be that no group space is being offered because of spring break.

Uh oh, Kuki....I'll be paying my TA a visit today. If this is true, then I completely misunderstood her (and she misunderstood *me* because I specifically asked was it a cabin free or a berth...).

She's been great in the past, maybe she's making me a special deal. I'll keep you informed.

Kuki is totally correct, we found that during the entire month of Dec, Sensation was closed for groups.

One berth = one bed. One free berth for every 8 cabins, based on double occupancy, is what my TA told me. It would be the cruise only rate for the lowest category cabin anyone in our group is booked in, and wouldn't include any taxes or port charges. We decided it would be split among all guests, if we reach that many cabins.
