Hope someone can answer this question. I booked the Glory for my fam of 5 for 8/20/05 eastern itinerary. Turns out it departs the same day my son would normally take the MCAT (medical college admissions test, a 9 1/2 hour test). It's only offerred 2x a year. He is now taking it 4/16 and hopefully will pass and not miss the cruise. But he's only finishing his freshman year and the students normally study the whole summer before taking it in August. I'm looking for a backup plan in case he doesnt score the required minimum for his program.
I was wondering if there was an option for me to fly him to Nassau one way and to board the cruise there on 8/21, the second day of the cruise. Does anyone know where the airport is in relation to the cruise port and how long it would take to get from the airport to the port? Any ideas for how much time to allow for transfer if it is even possible. Also, are there any paperwork issues with doing this? Thanks for your help.
I would call whoever you booked the cruise through and ask them. If someone missed the ship they would have to board at the next port of call so I would imagine you could do this, depending on flight times and the amount of time you're in port.
Celebrity Century 1/09
Carnival Destiny 10/07
Carnival Destiny 9/06
Monarch of the Seas 3/06
Carnival Inspiration 8/05
Carnival Miracle 4/05
Carnival Inspiration 4/04
Sovereign of the Seas 4/03
Son is in a 6 year combined BS/MD program. He would normally take MCAT in August after freshman year or in April sophomore year. So with the conflict he's now taking it next weekend but he wont get his score for 2 months. He only needs to score a reasonable 27 for his program to enter med school in August 06.
So I did contact my travel agent who phoned Carnival and they told us he can board the cruise at the first port of call in Nassau. But Carnival needs 14 days advance notice for this to happen. Was also told that there is some Jones Act that restricts where you can board a cruise.
I also did some researching of Nassau, and it seems like a pretty small island and we are there from 8am to 2pm. So my plan is if he gets the 27 we're in great shape. If he doesnt then he'll take the MCAT in Phila on Aug 20 then catch a late flight to Fort Lauderdale, stay at the airport and catch an 8am flight to Nassau, take a taxi to either the dock or where we decide to meet.
Thought I'd post the info in case someone else searches the old messages for an answer.
