Default 1st Time cruising: Carnival Fascinatio.. Random Questions

Hi All! For our One year anniversary my wife and myself just booked a cruise on Carnival Fascination (May 16th) out of Miami FL. This will be the first cruise for either of us.

I have a couple of questions:

1) How much money should we expect to spend outside the cruise cost.

2) Should we book short excursions in advance or on the ship (Port of Calls: Key West and Cozumel).

3) What can you do on our day at sea, we are not really morning people and from what we hear you have to get up real early to get a seat by the pool.

4) I just got done booking an Upper outside stateroom and had the choice of a room on the side of the ship, or one of the few that are on the back of the ship, the agent said that some people find these rooms better then the other. We opted for the side view

5) How can I find out how much the Spa packages cost? I would like to look into getting a surprise spa gift for my wife.

6) I know the Fascination is a bit 'older' of a ship, however we really wanted to take a trip on our anniversary and it was one of the few sailing at the time that we could afford. I am wondering if anyone can give us some insight into the ship and what ship activities we should try and participate in, and what we should try and avoid!

7) We fly into FLL the day before and will be spending the night somewhere in South Beach (We have not booked anything yet). Does anyone know the best way to get from South Beach to the Pier and on the way back how can we arrange transporation from the pier to FLL?

thanks for any and all responses!

We were on the Fascination in December although it was an older ship it was very nice and clean!! My hubby liked the decor better than on the Legend he said it was alot brighter . We never had a problem getting chairs but if you want to be out of the busy area go up to the top at the front of the ship where the walking track is plenty of chairs hardly anyone up there. We enjoyed going to the art auction cant believe how much money some people spend . The shows were pretty good we did not enjoy the comedian at all he seemed to be a bit too crude. We had fun watching the kareoke!! The only disapointment we had on the cruise was that someone fell seriously ill after we left Key West so we didnt make it to Cozumel as planned we ended up in Nassua Bahama's which worked out good because our oldest daughter (15) was estatic to go see the Atlantis hotel and aquarium. When you get to Key West book the trolly tour off the ship much cheaper and a nice tour if you can get the back seat you can hear the guide perfectly and since you are facing backwards you have no heads to try and look around. We had the Beach break booked at cozumel that one we would rather book through the cruise line because of the fact if your not back in time the ship will wait for you... otherwise you are screwed!! Hope this helped I cant help you much on the cabins since we had two inside cabins on the Empress deck. Hope you have an awsome time!!

expoguide, the only thing I can add to hockeyluvers answers are that you don't want anything on the back of the ship if you don't like motion. your ta should tell you about the motion and if I were you I would book a cabin midship or as close to it as possible with you and your wife being first time cruisers you will enjoy the ride much more. any more questions feel to e-mail me.

did fascination 2yrs ago, had a great time, key wast was nice, saw truman's white house just not enough time in port, mexico was nice, beer is cheap. as for how much money you should bring that is up to you, if you like to buy things and hit the casino bring some digits along, if you are conserative a few hundred dollars will do. you know the old saying champagne tast beer budget, or beer taste and champagne budget, however it goes.

Most people (according to the posts) seem to spend between $50-$100 extra per day (per person). It depends on how big of a shopper you are, how much you like to gamble and the shore excursions you choose.

Those aft balcony cabins are much sought after and typically are booked quickly. Many, many experienced cruisers love them, but for the least motion, yes, do midship. Seasickness isn't an issue for me, I actually like the motion, so we booked an aft balcony for September.

We've never had trouble getting a chair, but we don't have to sit at the main pool. There are several pools on board and lots and lots of chairs available around ship.

Have a great cruise!
